I don't know if I should be saying this or not and I hope Jeff Jampol over at The Doors official website isn't going to be angry at me, but I have a point to this post.
The upcoming Doors-Boston shows CD has been targeted for getting released today, but there's some confusion going on which I'd like to point out for people and then you can make your own decisions.
Somebody over at their board posted a link (by way of MusicToday) of a CD/t-shirt bundle and some people have begun attempting to order it. The t-shirt part was supposed to be a surprise.
The confusion for me is thus: Is this thing only going to be available as a CD/t-shirt bundle or is there going to be an option for just the CDs? The reason why I pose this question is because I wonder if this is what the price for the disc would be even without the t-shirt thown in?
I'm going to wait a little bit until just before I'm done doing stuff online this afternoon before I decide to either jump for it or wait until there is a clarification on this.
I just wish people would just wait until the link/ad on the website is put up rather than trying to cheat the system. All it does is serve to create uneeded confusion. I hope this post was clearly stated. I know there are times when I seem to speak in a language all my own.

O.k. everybody. Everything has been cleared up. You can order one of 3 choices over at The Doors.com. You can get: a)the CD title of the shows. b)a t-shirt commemorating the release or c)a bundle of both the CD and the t-shirt. It's just like when some of us have been ordering Grateful Dead CDs lately. You have these options going for you.

Three CDs? I thought an earlier Bright Midnight release boasted that it was the longest Doors show ever, and it was only two discs.
Maybe this is both April 10th shows.

This would be a double CD without all the Morrison rants, but I guess they figure Doors fans want this stuff. I don't know why they have to put titles to that stuff.

It is both shows.....

I'm glad that this one will be available in Canada at retail locations.
The "LIVE IN PHILLY 70" set got some added on customs charges for me! :sigh:

I'll be grabbing this one as soon as it hits the shelves up here!

I love the philly disc, and being from the Boston area, I can't wait to hear this. My friend was at the early show, so he'll get a kick out of it too.

KLIZ reported yesterday (and banter over at the Doors website board confirmed it) that the next in the Bright Midnight series of live shows will be Live In Pittsburgh 1970. It is due on March 4th. For those of you who order directly through the Doors site, you may have a chance to get a copy signed by the surviving members of the band. Supposedly, the pre-orders will be ready very soon.

Question, whatever happened to the new Doors doc that was to include Morrison's fathers interview? I haven't heard anything in over a year.

I bought all the previous "Bright Midnight" concert CD's,but I've cooled towards further Doors CD product, after one listen to "Live in Boston".Sometimes intoxicants could enhance Jim Morrison's performances, but in these shows his voice was in bad shape(particularly in the first set),and his performances were sloppy and substandard. These shows should have stayed in the vaults.I'll wait to hear reports on the musical quality of the next release before buying.I can't imagine ever playing "Live in Boston" again. Why,when there are so many superior Doors concert performances on CD?

I agree Phil. I was really excited about the Boston release, but couldn't even make it through one listen. The performance is pathetic. I read in a Doors forum that the Pittsburgh show isn't much better, that the band seems bored throughout the show. I'll pass on this one and listen to the Detroit and Philly shows.

The Dick Wolff (sp? of Law & Order fame) documentary is still on. Jeff Jampol has said something earlier this year that they are hoping to have it out in '08. If I'm recalling correctly, new film reels were still being found.

The pre-order has come up. You can now go to The Doors official site and order the PIttsburgh show. Later in the year, it is planned that the 4-CD box set of the Felt Forum 1970 will come out for release.

Thanks Steve! If they are still uncovering unreleased stuff, let them take their time, I can wait! :ohyes: I am looking forward to this!

The general release of the Pittsburgh show is coming on March 4, 2008 ...

[bigred]Live In Pittsburgh 1970[/bigred]

Image

Recorded on May 2, 1970 at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena during The Doors' final tour with Jim Morrison as lead vocalist, [title]LIVE IN PITTSBURGH[/title] captures a spectacular concert performance from the legendary quartet. A single-disc tour de force, the album features over an hour of incendiary energy from Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, drummer John Densmore, and guitarist Robby Krieger as they take the audience on an epic musical journey. The powerful recording was expertyly mixed and mastered by the Doors' longtime engineer/producer Bruce Botnick, who recorded several shows from the band's now-historic '70 tour on multitrack tape for the Absolutely Live album. Along with classic Doors hits and choice covers, highlights include Morrison s improvisational riffing during an exciting 22-plus minute version of When The Music's Over, leading the band into bits of songs they d never played live.

1. Back Door Man 2:47
2. Love Hides 2:23
3. Five To One 5:18
4. Roadhouse Blues 7:00
5. Mystery Train 7:53
6. Away In India 3:08
7. Crossroads Blues 3:25
8. Universal Mind 4:31
9. Someday Soon 3:51
10. When The Music's Over 16:54
11. Break On Through (To The Other Side) 0:54
12. Push Push 0:24
13. The Soft Parade Vamp 4:37
14. Tonight You're In For A Special Treat 1:28
15. Close To You 3:49
16. Light My Fire 11:18

Jeff Jampol over at The Doors website has announced that the next Bright Midnight release will be what they (the band) had found of The Matrix 1967. It will be a 2-CD set. A lot of people are going to complain that it wasn't the full run and that they should have broken down and bought the master by the taper who taped it. They found what Paul Rothschild was thinking of once putting together as a possible official release. People should cut them some slack. At least we are getting an official release from this run rather than none at all.
Jeff Jampol is going to likely end up taking some heat for this, but I am grateful this thing is coming out. People need to realize that not all of us have had the old bootleg copies of this run. When you are a fan of many different bands, especially from the '60s, it is impossible for a person to be able to collect bootlegs from literally all of the artists you love. I fall into this category and have had to be careful in choosing who and what particular performances over the years when I used to actively seek out bootlegs. If a miracle should happen and they can get an upgraded or full version of the entire run, then I'm not going to angry at The Doors organization if they decide to release it. He's been honest about the whole Matrix complication from the beginning. And besides, this is an official bootleg series, there are going to be examples where upgrades will be found along the way because surpises occur and situations change over the course of time. Put yourself in their shoes and just imagine the hurdles you have to go through just to get this stuff released-even when you own a tape free and clear. We are really lucky to even have a Bright Midnight series.
Jeff has always been upfront and honest in what we were getting from The Doors and the Bright Midnight releases. Plus, Jeff accidentally let out another bit of exciting news. He's also going to be the spokesperson for a new Janis Joplin site and I'm very much hoping that a similar offical live releases label for her, like Bright Midnight, will be forthcoming.
The pre-order for Live at the Matrix 1967 should be forthcoming in the next few days.

Thanks Steve T.! I have two versions of the Matrix Tapes, one being a single disc and another being a two disc encased in a very nice box. I look forward to Jeff's release and glad to see it finally being made available.

As for the Doors doc, I had read that Ray M. has seen a rough cut and is very pleased. Any update of it when it will be released?

This is the above referenced post:

THE DOORS DIAL IN AT THE MATRIX

Two-Disc Collection Includes Unreleased Recordings of the Band Playing a Small Club in San Francisco Just Weeks Before “Light My Fire” Made Them Stars

Available November 18 from Bright Midnight Archives and Rhino

LOS ANGELES – Rhino and Bright Midnight Archives present LIVE AT THE MATRIX 1967, the latest installment in The Doors’ acclaimed series of archival concert releases. This two-disc addition to the band’s live canon contains two club shows witnessed by few, but bootlegged by many. Restored and carefully mastered from first generation tapes acquired by Elektra Records and The Doors 40 years ago, these historic shows never sounded better. The collection will be available November 18 at all retail outlets, including http://www.thedoors.com and http://www.rhino.com, for suggested list prices of $24.98 (CD) and $12.99 (digital).

Where the previous three Bright Midnight Archives releases documented The Doors’ final tour in 1970, LIVE AT THE MATRIX 1967 rewinds to the band’s early days for a pair of shows at a San Francisco club in March, 1967. Only a handful of people showed up, so Jim Morrison, John Densmore, Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek played for each other, exploring song arrangements and jamming on a few blues favorites. Ironically, only a few weeks after the Matrix shows, the band’s second single, “Light My Fire,” would make them famous, selling a million copies on its way to topping the chart during The Summer of Love. “It was early 1967 and The Doors were about to enter the consciousness of the nation. And this is the way it sounded,” Manzarek writes in the album’s liner notes.

In spite of the empty room, the band is fully engaged, using the time to give “The End” and “Back Door Man” extra lyrics and extended sections. “This is probably the closest we’ve come to a true document of The Doors without constraints,” says Bruce Botnick, the album’s producer and the band’s longtime co-producer and engineer.

The band performs much of its self-titled debut on the first disc, including “Soul Kitchen,” “Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)” and the first single, “Break On Through (To The Other Side).” Along with those early originals, the band indulges its love of the blues with Bo Diddley’s “Who Do You Love?” Muddy Waters’ “I’m A King Bee,” and Allen Toussaint’s “Get Out Of My Life, Woman,” which has never appeared on any previous Doors album. The second disc offers a glimpse of the band mapping out its future, working out early versions of several songs from upcoming albums: “Crawling King Snake” (LA Woman); “Summer’s Almost Gone” (Waiting For The Sun); and nearly half of the songs from The Doors’ second album, Strange Days.

Before LIVE AT THE MATRIX 1967 arrives, Rhino will offer a slipcase version of the acclaimed Perception boxed set. On September 30, this 6CD/6DVD collection will be available at all retail outlets for a suggested list price of $79.98. Originally released in 2006 in a deluxe, limited edition package, the set contains all six of the band’s studio albums as CD/DVD sets.

Each CD includes the original mix of the album expanded with rare recordings. The DVD contains a surround sound mix of the album, the 40th Anniversary stereo mix of the album, as well as photos, videos, lyrics and a discography.

I hope they can top the sound on the KTS 4 CD set.I believe that boot was sourced from a 1st generation cassette dub of the 1/4" reel to reel masters.Marty Balin (Jefferson Airplane) owned The Matrix Club and supposedly recorded quite a few performers.I don't think he is in possesion of most of them though.

I'm looking forward to this set. I know that they'll do a good job with the reissue, but I still think they should have sourced the KTS box to fill out the collection.

Linda,
I'm sorry if I made extra work for you by my forgetting that you had made a single thread which was devoted just to the Bright Midnight releases of The Doors. It completely slipped my mind. You know that I'll probably forget again down the line.
