new albums or artists that are exciting you?
at the moment for me, plan b "paint it blacker" is just.. GENIUS, his debut album was stunning, but his incredible rapping over music by radioheads' "pyramid song" & the stones just really really works
The Nationals' new lp is awesome, & is taking on kings of leon, bloc party arcade fire & klaxxons for my album of the year
finally got to hear some new mylo stuff this weekend - very exciting...
& on the "totally new to me" front, Jack Penate is definitely exciting!
what's floating your boat?

Corrine Bailey Rae got a good review in Blues & Soul. My favorite artists of the past ten years are John Legend (US) and Beverley Knight (UK).

My missus ADORES Corrine Bailey Raes' debut album, it's rarely off the mp3 player

I have been really enjoying the Spanish Harlem Orchestra - "United We Swing." Some of the best, classic Latin music players in New York. Paul Simon guests on a re-arrangement of Late in the Evening.
I also like Judee Sill - "Live in London." Just her playing piano and guitar. Because her arrangements on the studio albums are so interesting I wondered if I would appreciate this release. But the setting allows the her voice to shine. I think she sings more freely here than in the studio.

I'm liking most of what I'm hearing from Amy Winehouse.
She sings soul music like it's meant to sound - like soul music - and not like contemporary "soul" lite / easy listening.
Have not bought it yet, but I've been sampling it on Barnes and Noble listening stations.

The Bird and the Bee are a girl/boy duo (she does most of the singing, he does most of the playing) specializing in jazzy, sophisticated pop with interesting harmonics and occasionally shocking lyrics. Just watched the video for "Again and Again" on You Tube over the weekend, and it was pretty good too.
I'm also still enjoying Lily Allen's debut album, though I'd be the first to tell you she's not for everyone. Sample before buying.
