[i]Description
Guitarist and chief songwriter Graham Russell and lead vocalist Russell Hitchcock were the sonic architects behind Air Supply's dynamic soft rock sound. Specializing in crafting moving paeans of romantic love that equaled chart gold, Air Supply were one of the Eighties' most commercially successful bands, racking up a string of smash hits including "Lost In Love," "The One That You Love," "Even The Nights Are Better" and "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All." Consummate soft pop practitioners, The Best Of Air Supply: Ones That You Love shows that great love songs will never go out of style.

Right, I know exactly two songs, "Lost in Love" and "All Out of Love" - but I'm going to get it anyway.

It still blows my mind that Roy Bittan of the E-Street Band played the piano on "All Out of Love". It's not what one would stereotypically figure.

I can't resist the enormous bombast of "Making Love Out of Nothing at All," produced by Jim Steinman.

A lot of people wanted to work with Steinman back then. Steinman was the original producer on what would later become Def Leppard's Hysteria album, but due to disagreements with the band over the sound, they parted ways.

Oh good grief. I can only imagine what Def Leppard would sound like Steinmanized.

I've got Air Supply's "The Ultimate Collection" which seems like a better comp, even though it misses "Love and Other Bruises" (an awful song, really!)... but one thing I never get about these comps is why no love for the "Hearts in Motion" album? "Lonely is the Night" was almost as big a hit as "Just As I Am" and "The Power of Love". It was released on Arista, just like the rest of their heyday albums, and it has a lot of great cuts on it, many featuring the production/sessionwork of the Chic rhythm section. My dream Air Supply compilation would have "It's Not Too Late" and "Put Love In Your Life" on it as well.
