Description
The Asylum Albums (1976-1980) The new collection showcases Mitchell at her most daring across Hejira (1976), Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter (1977), Mingus (1979), and the live album Shadows And Light (1980). Renowned audio engineer Bernie Grundman remastered all four releases included in this boxed set from the original flat analog master tapes. The Asylum Albums (1976-1980) will be available on June 21 from Rhino as a 5-CD set. The cover art for The Asylum Albums (1976-1980) includes a portion of one of Mitchell’s original paintings. Fans will enjoy a full version of the whimsically abstract landscape as an accompanying insert included in the album packaging.

Yes, even back in the 70s when it was released I thought it was pushing the boundaries of bad taste.

Am I missing something? Isn't it still pushing the boundaries or who is the person behind the wolf?

This cover doesn't appear to depict someone in blackface.

Who is the person on the new cover behind the wolf?

I have always loved Jaco's springy bass on "Dry Cleaner". Actually, I love the whole arrangement.

I've read interviews with Joni about the archive releases and she seems to be pretty hands-on. She says Neil Young (and Joni and Neil's late manager, Elliot Roberts) was inspirational on how to approach it.
( Really!!! I imagine that makes you very happy!)
According to an interview I found, Joni produces the Archive sets with Patrick Milligan, Rhino's Director of A&R. He says:
"I am currently Director of A&R. I actually just came back to Rhino in October of 2018, but I also worked here in the '90s and the early 2000s. I'm basically responsible for putting together catalogue products - physical, streaming, video. It's a pretty great job, especially when it means getting to go through Joni Mitchell's archive and put together releases with her. It's a career high point, for sure."

I have a couple of questions about this period of albums. 1. Will there be a quadio/atmos blu ray box set release of this material? 2. Will there be any archive material released of this 1976 - 1980 time frame?

Dunno about the first question, but I'm hoping yes on the second, considering the bounty we've had so far.
