FYI
'ooh las vegas' has been released before on the gram parsons tribute album 'return of the grievous angel'.
Yes. Although this is being promoted as a new album, the description says "both newly recorded and curated from previous album projects". Not sure if that means the covers they've already done are newly recorded as well, but we'll see. (If it collects up a bunch of their stray tracks from previously released tribute albums, that's a good thing too.)

Okay, we already have our answer. There are a total of four cover versions taken from previous releases, and the other five were newly recorded. I've updated the tracklist in the first post to denote which are which.
Everything should be cheaper, but collecting those four previously released tracks onto one disc is worthwhile. Same as when non-album tracks from CD singles are collected up onto a deluxe edition of an album. Having all the tracks in one place, rather than a zillion singles or Various Artist compilations, makes being a completist more satisfying.

Who, me?
This arrived yesterday, and it's really good. The best covers albums walk a thin line between pointlessly reproducing the original versions and reinterpreting the songs in a way that is clearly inferior. These recordings preserve the essence of the songs while at the same time making them sound like they could almost be Cowboy Junkies originals. I was prepared to dismiss this as interesting but not essential, but I was impressed by every song. This will be in my rotation for a while. Great stuff.
