The name Yngwie Malmsteen has always stood for uncompromising excellence. In a career that now spans more than 40 years he has proven himself to be one of the greats. You can try to categorize him in any way you want, but the manner in which Malmsteen has continually developed his craft allows him to transcend any definition you attempt to impose. With a catalog of 21 solo studio albums, Malmsteen’s artistry has always incorporated a healthy dose of virtuosity, but his talent goes well beyond a comprehensive control of the guitar. According to Malmsteen, the guy is "world-renowned."

I liked the single linked above...until it got to the vocals. I don't even have that big of an issue with the actual vocals, even though they are terrible. I still don't think Malmsteen can write a decent composition that includes vocals. He needs to work with a singer who, not only can come up with vocal melodies, but can also adapt the song so it works with the vocals. I'd argue, that start to finish, that Malmsteen's best solo album with vocals is the album he did with Joe Lynn Turner and Joe Lynn Turner's writing ability is the reason why.

Too bad Malmsteen's ego currently makes it impossible for any singer to work with him, or for him to work with a decent singer.

Malmsteen should just do what he does best and ditch the vocals altogether because his instrumental stuff is so much better.

Trilogy is his best album with a singer. He should go the full instrumental path, IMO.
