Ryan Reynolds tweeted a photo of Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka without explanation earlier today, fueling speculation that he's involved with the new movie.

Nope. I was excited and terrified by the original when I was a kid, precisely because I had no idea how this person had come to be so seemingly powerful.

I can't wait to see the scenes where Wonka trains with the League of Shadows, and learns how to use deception and theatricality to make those sweet, sweet chocolates.

I guess I have a big problem with Hollywood regurgitating movies and I thought that was what this was without digging deeper.

Didn't Burton already tell us about Wonka's past in his movie(even if it was an abbreviated version)?

Finally we get to see how he met the Oompa Loompas.

I recall reading both of the novels as a kid and, although Wonka's past is mentioned, it's not the main focus of either book.

In fact the second one involves Charlie Bucket and Willy Wonka thwarting an alien invasion by the Vermicious Knids, as well as various weird backwards ageing stuff involving Charlie's elderly relatives (who refuse to get out of bed). There's also an orbiting space-hotel and various other stuff going on - but no actual origin story as such. Not that I remember, anyway.

I loved most of Burton's take. Just take out all the Father stuff (although I adore Christopher Lee).

Yeah, I didn't mind the Burton movie other than the unnecessary back story. But since that's exactly wat the new movie is focusing on, I don't see the point. The Gene Wilder version was really all we need, though I appreciate the opportunities for employment with these remakes. It keeps a lot of people in jobs.

I'll be honest. I want more Oompa Loompas.
