Plus, I saw the movie before I read the book, so there's that.

Swear to gods, I tried to like Tolkien. I tried, and I failed.

At one time I would have said The Lord of the Rings. I've read it about 20 times, so obviously I really, really like it.

I don't know that I can still say it's my favorite, but without question it has been the most influential on me. I fully credit that book with making me want to write. I don't know if I'd have aspired to tell stories had The Lord of the Rings not come into my life -- and that's no small thing.
