As much as I'd like to see it, I'm not sure that Schilling is a guarantee. There's a lot of baggage with him, including the 38 Studios, which pissed a lot of people off. If it was only his baseball career, that would be a different matter, would make it easier for him.

I'm at work, so can't post pictures, but if you check the attached link below, you can find Kent in a Blue Jays head shot and then every team after. IMO, you can see a thickening of his lower jawbone over time; you can also notice the 40 pounds of additional beef without much loss in muscle definition, which while not impossible from 23 to 30, is very uncommon. Also, if you compare his numbers in San Fran to his time with the Jays and Mets - in a much less power friendly stadium no less - and the numbers themselves raise red flags.
I could be wrong; maybe he didn't take anything. But the main reason I hate the caught cheaters is it makes the kind of late career renaissance that Kent had as a Giant so much more questionable. if a player was in that era, and changed his body over time the way Kent did, and put up the kind of numbers year over year he did, and then dropped almost all of the muscle mass early in retirement, then I'm going to have strong suspicions that you had pharmacological help to keep it on during your playing days. It may not fair, but that's my take.
It's the same reason I have doubts about Jeff Bagwell, who I remember as a relatively scrawny kid in Boston.

I could make a case for four of them
Marvin Miller - though his leadership baseball was transformed forever. Like it or not the way it was set up was very wrong. He helped transform it. It is only greed that made it become what it is now. On the plus side baseball and baseball news is a 12 month sport.
Tommy John - 283 wins I believe and the operation that was named after him also transformed baseball. IMO he belongs.
Thurman Munson - Rookie of the Year, MVP, our captain. Him and Fisk were the two best catchers in the AL. He has the 10 years as required. Even if he didn't they let Addie Joss in there with only nine years.
Don Mattingly - Donnie Baseball - another of our captains. He never led us to the promise land but neither did Ernie Banks or Teddy Ballgame for their teams. MVP (7 times in top 20 voting, 4 of those in top 10). 9 Gold Gloves, 3 Silver Sluggers, .307 lifetime BA. Led league BA 1 - RBI 1 - Hits 2 - Doubles 3 - TB - 2
Renny might not agree but it would be a great summer if 4 Yankees made the Hall of Fame - Jeter, Munson, Mattingly and John. Imagine Jeter and Mattingly up there together?

With the new analytics, I'd start with WAR and go from there. Rule of thumb, ~70 WAR gives serious consideration, >90 is no-brainer inductee (unless they were a cheater), <50 is no way in hell player should be considered. Obvious exceptions can be made for players like Thurman Munson who had their career tragically cut short and maybe some top notch relievers or extremely skilled defensive players.
bWAR (too lazy to look up fWAR at this time)
Lou Whitaker = 75.1 Dwight Evans = 67.1 Tommy John = 61.5 Ted Simmons = 50.3 Dale Murphy = 46.5 Thurman Munson = 46.1 (pro-rated to 72.8)* Don Mattingly = 42.4 Dave Parker = 40.1 Steve Garvey = 38.1
* = Munson accumulated the 46.1 through roughly 9.5 seasons, 72.8 bWAR is pro-rated to 15 seasons worth which would have taken him through his age 37 season...however, the pro-rated portion credits him as a 4.85 bWAR player per season, and in his second-to-last season he was a 3.3 player and in his last season he was on pace to be a 3.6 bWAR player. So the 72.8 bWAR is likely a high estimate, it probably would be more realistic to put him at somewhere in the 56-60 bWAR area had he not been killed.
So to do the lazy, first-glance evaluation:
The writers blew it with Sweet Lou...he should have been voted in years ago.
Dwight Evans, Tommy John, Thurman Munson...would have to do more research.

I thought Lou and Alan Trammell should have gone in in the same year. It would have been fitting. And yep, I agree, none of these guys except Lou get in. While I appreciate the what might have been aspect of the two Yankees in question, I wonder how they'd be judged if they weren't part of the Yankees mythos.

New York general manager sent a letter to Ellsbury and his agent, Scott Boras, informing them the team converted his contract to a nonguaranteed deal, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Friday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not made any public statements.
Ellsbury has not played since 2017 and was released by the Yankees on Wednesday.
According to the person who spoke with the AP, the Yankees said he was treated by Dr. Viktor Bouquette of Progressive Medical Center in Atlanta without the team’s permission.
Ellsbury is owed more than $26.2 million as part of his $153 million, seven-year contract: more than $21.1 million for the final guaranteed season plus a $5 million buyout of a $21 million team option for 2021. If Ellsbury is not paid, nearly $21.9 million would come off the Yankees’ luxury-tax payroll next year.

I think Cole is going to the Coast- either The Dodgers or the Angels. I think it would take a lot more than The Yankees are willing to pay to get him here. I wouldn't at all mind if they settled for Wheeler.
