Frances Bean Cobain Launches ‘Kurt Was Here’ Clothing Collection
The new release features T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies adorned with Kurt Cobain’s sketches, paintings and hand-written notes

Quote:
“We believe that the importance of art is exceedingly potent in today’s social and political climate,” the [Live Nation] rep tells Rolling Stone via email, “and that it is the right time to share this collection of Kurt’s work with artists, collectors and fans, allowing them to experience Kurt’s legacy in a new way, and collectively celebrate his lasting impact on the world.”

And if $39 for a t-shirt isn't enough, one can always step up to the Barney's New York versions starting at $113 each...

If Kurt had lived long enough to have a son, the kid would have been named Orson Bean Cobain.

And would have been misaddressed formally as Mr. Bean Cobain.

Those who think $39 for a t-shirt is too much are respectfully encouraged to purchase an official Thumbs Down Guy t-shirt for only $23.99.

Pop has eaten itself and this is the regurgitated aftermath. :(

Yes, but at least this time, it's the actual child profiting from / exploiting the deceased, as opposed to any number of other situations where various strangers, corporations, hangers on, and 3rd cousins twice removed fight over the economic value of the dearly departed.

True...but it still irks me for whatever reason. There are, as you correctly say, far worse examples of posthumous exploitation (Jimi Hendrix comes to mind), but this still gives me the creeps.

I mean, at least it’s his kid instead of Courtney Love again.

You're right...but Love will be getting some of the money from this business venture. She'd be profiting in some manner, no doubt. It's also the fact that they're using his first name; if Frances was serious she'd use her own name and the attendant publicity about who her Dad was would 'trickle down' into brand recognition. Overtly using his first name just seems like a pure Courtney Love move (as in shamelessly exploitative and transparently obvious).

I'm not even a Nirvana fan and never have been, but I've always disliked Courtney Love. She bothers me. Usually I don't care about celebrity's lives. I either like their music or I don't; the minutia of their lives doesn't intrigue me. She just always seemed...evil? Is that too strong a word? Unlike Yoko Ono - whom I honestly believe loved John Lennon in her own mad way - or Paula Yates (who was a shameless groupie of many years standing but who really seemed to be in love with Michael Hutchence), Courtney Love has always seemed ethically repulsive to me. It's weird because I never cared for Kurt Cobain's music at all but she seems to me to be a very cold, calculating figure and I've always disliked her.

Made her Dad famous, of course - this is the cause of all her angst. ;)
