If you're not nice
Sony Japan has solicited a tantalising title -- Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1975 Live Recordings -- with no other information. The price seems to imply a box set, not simply a reissue of the 2002 Bootleg Series release:
(ETA: The link has vanished.)
Let's open a thread for speculative fun, in case this turns out to be something new and worthwhile for Bob Dylan collectors.

This release likely acts as a soundtrack to a film by Martin Scorsese about the tour. It will be streaming on Netflix. A Variety article about the film: https://variety.com/2019/music/news/bob ... 203104499/ and some conjecture from the article about a possible soundtrack release: "If it does turn out to be an autumn release, that would dovetail nicely with unconfirmed expectations that the film will be coupled with a boxed set of unreleased material that would be part of the “Bootleg Series” that Sony Music puts out a new installment of every fall. At one point, both these things seemed destined for last fall. In 2017, without mentioning Scorsese’s involvement, a source in the Dylan camp told Rolling Stone that a Rolling Thunder documentary and accompanying “Bootleg Series” set might come out in the fall of 2018, possibly incorporating material from Dylan’s adjacent “Blood on the Tracks” period. That rough plan obviously changed, as the “Blood” recordings got their own dedicated box this past November, leaving the door wide open for “Thunder” to get its multi-disc due in 2019. But Netflix and Sony have not confirmed plans for a soundtrack or accompanying set.
Assuming that a “Rolling Thunder” boxed set will appear, it will be the first time the “Bootleg Series” has returned to an era already covered in Dylan’s archival collections. The third release in the series, back in 2002, was “Bob Dylan Live 1975: The Rolling Thunder Revue,” but that was a mere two-disc set structured pretty much like a straight live album, and was thought of by fans as a lost opportunity, before the “Bootlegs” began expanding to six or eight discs at a clip. There are few other eras in Dylan’s vault that buffs are as eager to see opened up, and the fact that most or all of these gigs were professionally filmed as well as recorded has whet appetites for more than 40 years."

I'm hoping as well. If it doesn't get released, I'd at least like some sort of official explanation as to why exactly. If nothing else, it seems a perfect candidate for a DVD/Blu-ray, where one could opt for a "music only" feature.

Mine too. There's been nothing, no internet speculation or anything since then. Did I read that the Martin Scorsese film is coming out toward the end of the year? I would imagine that this would come at around the same time.

A new solicitation from Sony indicates that this will be a 14CD box set and has now been scheduled for June 7th. I've added the information to the first post, but it looks like CD14's tracklist has some errors which will hopefully be updated by the label soon.

Did Dylan let Mick Ronson do any lead vocals on this tour, or even have a featured spot? I have the 2 cd edition, & the only reason I know Ronson is on there is what I have read. It would be nice to get a recording of Joni Mitchell's performances also.

Bob Dylan Preps Rolling Thunder Revue Box Set to Accompany Scorsese Doc 14-disc collection, new film set to arrive in June A new boxset chronicling Bob Dylan’s famous Rolling Thunder Revue will be released as a companion piece to Martin Scorsese’s upcoming documentary about the 1975 tour, Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese. The boxset will be released June 7th, while the film hits Netflix and select theaters June 12th.
Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1975 Live Recordings will comprise 14 CDs and 148 tracks, capturing five full Dylan sets from the tour that were professionally recorded. It will also include recently discovered tapes from Dylan’s tour rehearsals, which took place at S.I.R. studios in New York. Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue tour took place between 1975 and 1976 and found the musician playing theater shows with little advanced notice. The tour famously featured Joan Baez, Roger McGuinn and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, while one-off special guests included Ringo Starr, Patti Smith and Joni Mitchell.
The Rolling Thunder Revue box set has reportedly been in the works for several years (a selection of songs from the tour were featured on 2002’s The Bootleg Series Vol. 5). In 2017, a source close to Dylan’s camp told Rolling Stone, “It’s a great period and there’s so much music that was so well-recorded. I think that’ll be a great companion piece to the film. We have incredible, incredible stuff.”
Scorsese’s documentary about the tour was also long-rumored before Netflix confirmed its arrival in January. The film is expected to feature a rare on-camera interview with Dylan, as well as other performers from the tour. The majority of the interviews were reportedly conducted by Dylan’s longtime manager, Jeff Rosen, who also did the interviews for Scorsese’s 2005 Dylan film, No Direction Home.
