Jimbo was just over for a little lunch and tunes today.

We had a surround sound party with tracks from Genesis/ Porcupine Tree/ Moody Blues/ Steve Miller/ and Depeche Mode.

Jimbo came bearing a gift (the new Kaiser Chiefs CD) and I was able to give him the new remaster collection by Elvis Costello (thanks to a mutual friend ).

After a lunch of sandwiches we got down to some serious listening.

We meandered from Genesis's "Trick Of The Tail" (SACD) to Porcupine Tree's "Fear Of A Blank Planet" (DTS) to Steve Miller's "Fly Like An Eagle" (DTS) to The Moody Blues "Seventh Sojourn" (SACD) and finally Depeche Mode's "Black Celebration" (DTS).

Good stuff!

It's always fun when John has a free Saturday and we hang out listening to some toonage! He's a great sport to put up with my offkey warblings, singing along with the songs.

We also listened to selections from the Moodies' Every Good Boy Deserves Favour. "Emily's Tune" is just a beautiful melody. Great to hear some old favorites in glorious surround-sound on John's top-notch system. I can only imagine his neighbors thinking "there he goes again" when the volume gets turned up to 11!

Very grateful to that mutual friend for the EC dics. This is the 5th time on CD for me (Columbia/Fiend/Ryko/Rhino/Hip-O) for some of these titles. Thanks BL if you're reading this!

Hopefully the next time I get out to NYC, we can arrange something like this. I would love to have an ICE East Coast gathering, with Jimbo, John & anyone else who's around. Definitely would be fun, to be sure.

I hope John had some more of those nice pinwheels around!!

Someday, I will be witness to one of these momentous occasions. I will be out there one of these times guys. It may not exactly be like tomorrow, but someday I will come out there for a visit.

I think that next time there should be a video camera filming Jimbo and his "offkey warblings". Who needs American Idol?

any reason at all to buy those Costellos? Are they different mastering than the Rhinos? or different liner notes?

According to AllMusic.com, the best-of compilation was mastered by Dan Hersch, which leads me to suspect it's the same mastering as the Rhinos...

And btw, I also plan on hopping over to see my friend Federico one of these days as well. Linda, one of these times, you are going to have to gather a bunch of us up so that we can see you (that is, if you're willing to put up with a bunch of misfits).

She puts up with a bunch of misfits on a daily basis, so what's the diff, really??

Hey, I used to hang out with you guys. Not you guys specifically, I mean guys like you ... record shop guys, music guys, you know? Whenever y'all post photos of your get-togethers, the Jimbo lunches and everything, it freaks me out because I knew guys exactly like that. The look, the manner, the branded record store bag under the arm, wide-eyed and drooling over the import bins ... you're my kind of misfits. (Even Chris.)

I always forget to take out the digital camera at these events.
