Superstorm Sandy was 6 years ago tonight. The most powerful storm ever to hit NY/NJ and Long Island. I had never seen such destruction except on television in other parts of the world, now it had hit us.

A memorable night because Jimbo didn't want to stay in house alone (his brother was at work) and came over and stayed with us for the night with his dog. We lucked out as we never lost power and are far enough away from the water so the storm didn't effect us.

...as I recall though, some of Jimbo's collection took some hits from this storm. I remember him on the prowl looking to replace some things that were lost.

Yes it took a major hit as a lot of it was in the attached garage that had a lower floor than the rest of the house so all the water pooled and went through there.
Then during the reconstruction of the first floor, Jimbo had to move everything that was left to a storage facility where it still remains (I believe).

He spent the last 5 years trying to pick up stuff that had gotten destroyed. One of the problems of having a large collection is trying to keep it safe and somewhat organized.

One reason I envy the youth of today who don't have these problems. I don't think I've ever met anyone under 30 who collects like we do.

The upsides and the downsides I guess. We enjoy the collections and such and as far as I'm concerned, there's nothing wrong with that. On the other hand, with things like Spotify, my kids feel like they have everything they need at their fingertips on their phones. Different strokes I guess.

The thing is we had to collect physical media, no alternative. Today kids can still buy CDe even vinyl but since most don’t even have a proper stereo so today’s modern devices are pretty tempting. Everything at ones fingertips.
