I need to see the track list. I have the hi-res Atlantic box & all the Angel Air cd's with bonus trax. If there's significant new material I'd be in.

Andy Pearce mastered, I like what he did with Free, Taste, Gallagher. This should be a winner.

This info was courteous of Superdeluxeedition, I also preordered a set, it will be a great compliment to the Ian Hunter set.

How is the sound on the Hunter box? Are the previously released albums a sonic upgrade?

I did not go back and compare all of them to my old discs, sorry. I am hesitant to recommend anything this expensive, as opinions on sound vary from individual to individual.

I applaud you for getting this Barry. Maybe one day I can. I love Ian Hunter, a true icon.

As for the Mott box set, pre-ordered!

Truth be told Rick I sold other cds to fund the purchase. I was unsure of how long it would last, turns out that there was no rush but who can predict? Remember the Sandy Denny box, those who waited for price drops were left without a copy.

I so understand Barry, I subscribe to the same practice. And you are so right, many of these sets are very limited and once gone they are gone or at a kings ransom on eBay.

My wallet is vacillating. At $300+ I really would like some informed opinions on the mastering quality. If I knew for a fact the new masterings of the 3/4 of it I already own was at least a slight upgrade, I'd probably take the plunge (though I really am low income at this point).

One relevant example is the first live album, Welcome To The Club. The original vinyl sounded excellent. Both cd editions were disappointing by comparison.

First, here's the tracks I do not THINK I currently own official releases of & that are likely exclusive to this set. Some of them may be BBC studio, so their may be a few too many. I count 27 exclusives (mostly alternate versions). This is all cd based.

Because I have so much Mott, some of the cd liner notes are lame, I don't have time to play a bunch of tracks, I don't necessarily know what the titles in "()" mean & how they correlate with previously released versions, & I'm imperfect the following may not be 100% accurate (i.e. there may be less than 27 exclusives):

CD #1 (MTH)
9. If Your Heart Lay with the Rebel (Would You Cheer the Underdog?) (Instrumental Take 2)
10. Rock and Roll Queen (Single A side)
12. Road to Birmingham (Guy Steven’s Mix)
13. You Really Got Me (Complete take)
15. Rock and Roll Queen (Guy Steven’s Mono Mix)
16. Rock and Roll Queen (Kitchen Sink Instrumental)

CD #2 Mad Shadows
Bonus Tracks:
10. No Wheels to Ride (Demo)
11. Moonbus (Baby’s Got a Down on Me)
12. The Hunchback Fish (Vocal Rehearsal)
13. You Are One of Us (Take 9)

CD#3: Wildlife
11. The Debt (Single B side)
13. Brain Haulage (Whiskey Woman)
14. Growing Man Blues (Take 10)
15. Long Red (Demo)
16. The Ballad of Billy Joe
17. Lay Down (Take 8)

CD#4: Brain Capers
9. Mental Train (The Moon Upstairs)
10. How Long? (Death May Your Santa Claus) (I ASSUME This is a an alternate)
12. Your Own Backyard (Complete Take)
13. Where Do You All Come From (Backing Track)

CD #5: The Ballads of Mott The Hoople
1. Like a Rolling Stone (Fragment)
2. No Wheels to Ride (1st House)
3. Angel Of 8th Avenue (Tape 816)
5. Blue Broken Tears (Tape 816)
7. Can You Sing the Song That I Sing (Full Take)
11. I’m A River (Vocal Rehearsal)

CD #6
It’s Live And Live Only (Fairfield is in totally different running order between this & the Angel Air)
Fairfield
7. The Moon Upstairs

Paris Theatre, London (BBC Radio One In Concert Session) – December 30, 1971:
(nothing exclusive; all were on the official BBC cd)

The following tracks have been released by Angel Air, Rhino & Island & are not on this box:
I count 30. IMO, leaving these off is the set's #1 weakness imo.

Various studio rarities & 1 live track, mostly from the Angel Air reissues with a couple from Rhino & Island comps:
Ohio (Live)
Find Your Way (Instrumental)
It Would Be A Pleasure
How Long? (Death May Be Your Santa Claus)
It'll Be Me
Long Red
Growing Man Blues
Surfing UK

Live Official releases (Angel Air & BBC):

Fairfield:
When My Mind's Gone
Long Red
Original Mixed Up Kid
Walking With A Mountain
Laugh At Me
Thunderbuck Ram

BBC Studio (aka Original Mixed Up Kids) (I'm making assumptions on these as they are not labeled BBC recordings on the box list)
Whiskey Women
Moon Upstairs
Original Mixed Up Kid
Thunderbuck Ram

BBC Paris
The Moon Upstairs

Two Miles From Live Heaven (Island period only listed)
No Wheels To Ride
Whiskey Women
Walkin With A Mountain Medley
It'll Be Me
Angels of 8th Avenue

All The Way From Stockholm (Island period only listed)
Long Red
Original Miixed Up Kid
Walking With A Mountain
Laugh At Me
Thunderbuck Ram
Keep A Knockin'

I am personally happy to have these early albums re-mastered properly. Previous incarnations have been lame. Andy Pearce will take care of that. :ohyes:

I was ok with the Angel Air's (I repaced my original Atlanrtic's with them) & the 192/24 Atlantic box set download is excellent. There is no way 16/44 cd can compete with 192/24 done right (which the Atlantic box was). If I get this it will be for the 27 or so new tracks.

Not including comps (of which I've bought several & still have 2 + the live & BBC releases), I've already bought these 4 times: USA LP's & 1 Angel Air LP; USA cd's, Angel Air cd's, Box Set 192 Download.

That's the BBC set I mention above.

BTW, the 27 exclusive tracks I mention assumes that you own the Angel Air rarities set 2 Miles from Heaven. If not, the 27 becomes 44; though the Angel Air comp is still in print with a $17.98 list price. $11.xx from Amazon 3rd party sellers.
