[2018-09-21] Golden Earring "Alive ... Through The Years" 11CD limited numbered edition box set (Red Bullet Netherlands)

Description
Limited 11CD box set from the Golden Earring. Together with Red Bullet the band collected 7 live albums, plus some unique recordings previously only available as B-sides. Also included are several recordings from the Five Zero Show from 2015, which were only available on DVD before. The live albums are divided in 6 digipacks. The 7th CD is a bonus disc with live rarities. The box also features a 32 page booklet with liner notes from Tjerk Lammers. In this booklet the various Live LPs are highlighted separately. And the existence of a band on-the-road comes alive by various anecdotes as told by Tjerk, who also recently interviewed lead singer Barry Hay for this box set and who in 2015 published a book about the Golden Earring. The booklet is illustrated with beautiful photographs from the Vinkes brothers, who have been photographing the Golden Earring as early as the late 70s. 'Alive... Through the Years' is the successor to the Complete Studio Recordings box set released 2 years ago. And just like the latter this new live box set will also be released as a limited numbered edition.

I was wondering if they'd get to the live albums.

Hands down, these are some of the greatest live albums in Rock history.

The 1977 double album Live, is phenomenal, guitar-heavy Prog Rock/Hard Rock.

And all the unplugged albums are spectacular.

This will be mine.

The studio box featured the old Red Bullet mastering IIRC but the new Jan Akkerman set does have brand new mastering so I hope that holds true for this Live box. Great news.

The price will obviously come down as time passes.

As with Pete I am very excited about this but as Barry also notes I personally need to see a significant price drop first.

In! Definitely needs a price drop. But I expect that will happen. Think I paid roughly $85 shipped for the studio box. I have most of this but there's enough here to make it worth it to me should it get close to the $50 mark or so.

Phenomenal set and well worth the price. I got one for ~$50 and am happy. But as with the studio album, it's not quite complete...

- To get ALL of the Naked tracks, you still need the "Fully Naked" set which is very hard to track down
- "Something Heavy Going On" is missing "Radar Love". This wouldn't be an issue you would think given the number of versions of "Radar Love" that ARE included, but I think this one may be my favorite.

Bottom line: I'm keeping my standalone version of "Something Heavy..." and still on the hunt for "Fully Naked".

I've said it many times, but this is one of the greatest live bands ever.

And they've created so many excellent studio albums through the six decades they've been around.

Having this and the other box set is awesome.

The original vinyl of Something Heavy was 8 tracks, no Radar Love but the original CD had the extra song. Strange that a CD set would mimic the vinyl version.
The Fully Naked set is a must have for fans. :ohyes:
