Nutz Description Special Deluxe Collector's Edition / Fully Remastered Audio / 9 Bonus Tracks / 12-page full colour booklet 4,000 word essay, enhanced artwork, new photos and new Interviews. With the rise of British rock as a major, worldwide, force during the early seventies (think Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep etc.) a slew of up and coming home grown acts also appeared. Groups such as Strider, Stray, Bedlam and Stretch were all popular on the gig circuit and were joined by impressive contenders Nutz, a group that had been building a reputation for some time since the late sixties. Formed in their home city of Liverpool, initially trading under the name of Harpoon, this four-man unit fitted right into the scene and not surprisingly secured major management (linked to Peter Grant, Led Zeppelin's svengali) and an enviable deal with the influential A&M label. Initial recordings with blues producer Neil Slaven were aborted but quickly reconvened with John Anthony (Queen, Roxy Music) at Rockfield studios located in rural Monmouthshire. These sessions proved far more fruitful, paving the way for a record that made Nutz one of the country's most talked about acts. Issued in 1974, and housed in a highly controversial sleeve, the album attracted strong reviews from the music press and saw the band instigate an intense gigging schedule (including opening for Queen on their 1974 tour). The album itself is an impressive mixture of powerful hard rock, and more ambitious compositions such as the hard hitting 'Ain't No Thanks To You' (featuring superb slide guitar), 'As Far As The Eye Can See' and 'Poor Man'. It also showcases some exceptional individual performances, particularly from vocalist Dave Lloyd and guitarist Mick Devonport.Tracklist 1. Poor Man 2. Ain't No Thanks To You 3. Spoke In A Wheel 4. I Can't Unwind 5. Can't Tell Her Why 6. As Far As The Eye Can See 7. Love Will Last Forever 8. Light Of Day 9. Round & Round 10. JokeBonus Tracks: 11. Just For The Crack (Single B-Side) 12. Liverpool based quartet Nutz were signed to the hip and happening independent label A&M records during the early seventies and represented an emerging breed following in the grand footsteps of established master practitioners such as Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Queen. Their debut album displayed a maturity beyond their years, attracting positive applause and strong reviews. In addition to a healthy touring schedule it was a successful exercise in laying the ground work for the future. So, with a positive reputation established, the group set about recording their follow-up album in London's Trident studios utilising, once again, producer John Anthony who had so successfully guided their debut. It was a wise move as the resultant record showed distinct maturity and a great gift for constructive arrangements. It also continued to showcase the inventive guitar playing of Mick Devonport and Dave Lloyd's mellifluous and uniquely identifiable voice. Issued in 1975 on the A&M label and, once again, housed in a somewhat risque cover, Nutz Too housed a brace of intelligent and well-constructed tracks that veer from on-point mid-seventies hard rock such as 'Take It From Me', 'Cool Me Down' and the jewel in the crown 'Sinner', to more introspective fair like 'Dear Diary' and 'The Love You Lost'. A solid record, then, and one that also gave them an opportunity to make a memorable appearance on the BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test TV programme.Tracklist 1. Nature Intended 2. I Want Never Gets 3. Take It From Me 4. Change's Coming 5. Dear Diary 6. Is It All For Real? 7. Cool Me Down 8. R.S.D. 9. The Love You Lost 10. Sinner 11. Knife EdgeBonus Tracks: 12. Long Ships (Single B-Side) 13. Just For The Crack (Live In-Concert) 14. Joke (Live In-Concert) 15. I Can't Unwind (Live In-Concert) 16. Ain't No Thanks To You (Live In-Concert) 17. Poor Man (Live In-Concert) 18.
