we'll see, i know that the carly simon album in which she re-did her own songs was just not very good at all.

Pretty much the same with the rerecording Kiss packaged with Sonic Boom. A couple interesting ones, but for the most part, meh.

I guess these self-covers albums are considered a safer bet for sales than albums of all-new material, especially for artists who appeal to a certain demographic.. I have no real issues with this, as long as the new versions bring new aspects to the material and aren't just rote remakes. Like everything, some are better than others.
