Hmm.So I guess Jason King and Peter Wyngarde is the inspiration for Mastermind's Jason Wyngarde I.D. l did not know that. Certainly adds more subtext to his seduction of Jean Grey with illusion and taunting Scott Summers.

The whole 'Hellfire Club' theme in the X-Men was largely based on an episode of The Avengers in which Wyngarde appeared as a Hellfire Club member.

I knew him first and foremost as Jason King, so he's typecast in my mind as that character...who, as he admitted, was just a slightly exaggerated version of himself anyway.

Interesting that the Jason King character (a bestselling author and international playboy as well as a spy) had an alter-ego called Mark Caine - the star of King's spy novels - who was also supposed to have been based upon himself.

His use of his voice was excellent in Flash Gordon. It's tragic that he wasn't in some more well-known franchise; he's one of my favourite actors of all time, and was always entertaining to watch in everything he did.

He'd have been a great Grand Moff Tarkin, for example.
