I wish the animation was better. It looks ugly and cheap.

It's the same animation as Power of Daleks, it definitely could be better but it's better than showing a white screen while Tom Baker narrates what is supposed to be happening(like in the previous VHS & DVD releases)...

I have avoided every version of this they've released. I've always had the opinion that there wasn't enough 'raw material' from the original shoot to adequately construct a finished version that will ever really work seamlessly. I could be wrong, but I'd rather stick to the 'audiobook' version of the script that's been released (if anything) and try to imagine the whole thing. The idea of seeing unimpressive special effects and ad hoc scenes cobbled together decades later just puts me off.

I may one day get the audiobook. It's a pity because Dr. Who and Douglas Adams were two of my favourite things in the 80's and it would've been great to see a proper version of Shada. If I had a TARDIS, I might be tempted to travel back and make sure the original production had been completed (somehow). :)

That's the story they pulled scenes from to include Baker in "The Five Doctors" isn't it?

Yes - the scenes with Baker as The Doctor (with Romana) on a gondola were from Shada.

It’s definitely on my list. The US release is scheduled for January?

I think so, the Amazon UK site does have a region free Blu-Ray that is actually Region Free(I ordered mine and watched it last weekend just fine without a Region Free Player).
