Description
A long-awaited memoir from the larger-than-life, multifaceted lead vocalist of Iron Maiden, one of the most successful, influential and enduring rock bands ever.

Pioneers of Britain’s nascent Rock & Metal scene back in the late 1970s, Iron Maiden smashed its way to the top, thanks in no small part to the high-octane performances, operatic singing style, and stage presence of its second, but twice-longest-serving, lead singer, Bruce Dickinson. As Iron Maiden’s front man—first from 1981 to 1993, and then from 1999 to the present—Dickinson has been, and remains, a man of legend.

But OTT front man is just one of the many hats Bruce wears. In addition to being one of the world’s most storied and well-respected singers and songwriters, he is an airline captain, aviation entrepreneur, motivational speaker, beer brewer, novelist, radio presenter, and film scriptwriter. He has also competed as a world-class level fencer. Often credited as a genuine polymath Bruce, in his own words (and handwritten script in the first instance!), sets forth many personal observations guaranteed to inspire curious souls and hard-core fans alike.

Dickinson turns his unbridled creativity, passion, and anarchic humour to reveal some fascinating stories from his life, including his thirty years with Maiden, his solo career, his childhood within the eccentric British school system, his early bands, fatherhood and family, and his recent battle with cancer.

Bold, honest, intelligent and very funny, his memoir is an up-close look inside the life, heart, and mind of one of the most unique and interesting men in the world; a true icon of rock.

Bruce Dickinson to release memoir in 2017

Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson is to put his life to paper in a memoir.

The book will be published in autumn of 2017, initially in hardback, ebook and audiobook format, with a paperback to follow in 2018. It will be published by Harper Non-Fiction and Dey Street, with the singer anticipating adding to the tale on 'Maiden's forthcoming tour. He said:

"It was flattering to be approached to write a book about my experiences and it seems an appropriate time to do this as I will have plenty of time on tour next year to work on a book. I am sure flying the 747 out round the world on tour will add to the tale with some unusual scenarios!"

Publishing Director Jack Fogg, who negotiated the book's rights, has spoken of his delight at landing the project, saying:

"There's no one like Bruce. Which other rock musician can fly a 747, or fence at an international level? He's a total one-off; engaging, funny, warm, self-deprecating — a British eccentric in its very best form. His book will be outstanding and I am so delighted we get to publish it and work with him."

Entertaining read - it starts a bit slow with the childhood story, but picks up steam when the music stuff starts in earnest (maybe even a bit before when he's in boarding school). I have to say it left me wanting a bit more about the recording and writing parts of the albums, but the tour stuff is possibly even more superficial. The stuff about his solo career was especially enlightening to me - I remember it, but I didn't follow it much. I picked up one album tonight as a result and will likely check out more. His passion for flying shines through, but the story of his cancer battle might be the most engaging part of the book. He gets into details most people don't (you'll find out how he got past one of the side effects of the opioids he took).
