This Wednesday I'll be on the meat slab for gastric bypass surgery: simply put, my stomach will now be the size of an egg. Since I was a 400+ pound behemoth (I'm now 350), this will be a major lifestyle change, and one I am looking forward to making! My goal weight is 225, however my ultimate goal is to fit into a pair of 36 waist, classic cut Levis.

If anyone in ICEland has had this surgery, drop me a PM. Or if anyone is thinking about having it, feel free to reach out to me.

Bob.

Good luck, Bob. I know a few people who have had this type of surgery to varying degrees of success. I think a lot of it has to do with your ability to alter your eating habits going forward. A few of those people couldn't get past the mental aspect of it, thinking they would have to "diet" for the rest of their lives. The ones who maintained the weight loss either focused their energies on exercising & adjusting longstanding eating patterns, or they tried therapy & support groups (or both). What I've heard from most of them is, "don't focus on what you can't do anymore, but all the things you CAN do when you're not carrying around all that extra weight." Plus, living longer means years of additional music listening.

Sending good wishes your way.

Good luck, Bob, and get well soon. Best wishes to you so may achieve your goals here, and I hope the lifestyle change will become more than tolerable, but you might actually find pleasure in more numerous but tiny meals throughout the day to expand your palate.

Good luck on this journey Bob.

I wish you the best with it.

I've always been skinny so I can't relate, but I'm not healthy anyway so what did that get me?

Best wishes!

Good luck Bob! My wife had it done in 2004. She says it''s the best health decision she'said ever made. The only thing she really disliked was the two week prepratory liquid diet. That was a while ago now so procedures may be different and obviously ever patient differs.

Best to you. I have 4 friends who have gone through with this, and all were wonderfully successful.

Thanks all for the kind words. I am currently in the throes of the clear liquid diet. I did however find out two things: 1. if you call broth consommé, it tastes better; 2. jello is my second favorite jiggly thing.

See you in a few days!
Bob.

Back amongst the ICErs! Back home and getting into a "do nothing but rest" routine. I now have six new holes on my stomach to add to the four from gall bladder surgery twenty years ago. Very sore, but meds are good, and music makes it all better. Several large Amazon boxes await!

Just a quick update. It's been two weeks since surgery and I'm down 32 pounds. Apart from headaches and a little dizziness (caused by dehydration) feeling pretty good. Been on liquid only for a month now; pureed food starts this weekend, and real food on the 16th. Doing well with the diet. I used to be a chef so I can make mushy crap taste good. :hungry:
