The Monkees have one of the best back catalogues of hits and album tracks. The serious music press once laughed at the 'pre-fab four' but now they are universally recognised as having some of the best pop and rock songs ever. I used to work with a band who wrote the music first, and then added lyrics later. "Sleestak" was one of the code names they used.
