Soundgarden are looking at the possibility of making a deluxe 25th anniversary edition of Badmotorfinger, says guitarist Kim Thayil.
It would follow the 20th anniversary version of Superunknown, released this week – although it won't happen until 2016.
Thayil tells Billboard: "We have discussed giving the treatment to Badmotorfinger – there are some B-sides, there's some live material, and I believe they may be rehearsal material.
"Badmotorfinger had an impact with listeners, but also with guitarists, drummers and singers – people who started bands. It definitely deserves the same kind of treatment we're giving Superunknown."
Meanwhile, Thayil admits his long-planned compilation of B-sides and rarities is still something he wants to do, but the band have other priorities.
He says: "I've been talking about that since the mid-90s. I thought when we got back together we'd start on that project. But first we did the retrospective best-of, then a live record and then a new album. These tours came up and now Superunknown.
"The B-sides and all that stuff will be compiled in the future into a separate, standalone record."
Superunknown is be the first record to be released in a new headphone audio format called DTS Headphone:X. The 11.1 surround mix will be available from creators DTS to those who purchase the super deluxe edition of the re-release. Hear the Headphone:X version of Spoonman via the Soundgarden website.
The band are gearing up for a US tour with Nine Inch Nails during which they'll play before Trent Reznor's outfit. They return to the UK on July 4 for the British Summer Time festival in London, alongside Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Faith No More and others.

Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil has revealed that the group will release a 25th anniversary reissue of their third studio album, Badmotorfinger, this fall. The album contained the singles "Jesus Christ Pose," "Outshined" and "Rusty Cage." In an interview with Loudwire, he called it the "most exciting thing in the next few months." He also said it would be coming out on November 18th, but did not proffer any other details.
Thayil said the band also hoped to put out a remixed and remastered edition of their first LP, 1988's Ultramega OK. "We're hoping to put that out early next year," he said. "We've moved the labels; we're putting that out on Sub Pop. All the paperwork is in order." Thayil had originally announced that this reissue was in the works in 2014, saying at the time that engineer Jack Endino was working on giving it a "heavier, warmer mix." At the time, they were looking for a label to put it out, as they had severed ties with SST, the original record company owned by Black Flag guitarist Greg Ginn that released it.
In a 2014 interview with Billboard related to a deluxe edition of their 1994 album Superunknown, Thayil said the group had been discussing a Badmotorfinger reissue. The group had unearthed B-sides, live material and possibly even rehearsal material. "Badmotorfinger had an impact with listeners but also with guitarists and drummers and singers, people who started bands," he said. "It definitely deserves the same kind of treatment we're giving [Superunknown]."
It's unclear what will be included on these prospective reissues since, in late 2014, the group put out the box set Echo of Miles: Scattered Tracks From Across the Path. This set included B-sides and other miscellany related to both Badmotorfinger and Ultramega OK.

Pre-order links for all of the configurations of this release are now on Amazon USA. I've added details for the big box set to the first post. The 2CD deluxe edition consists of the original album remastered and the CD with studio outtakes. The 1CD standard edition is just the remastered album.

Anyone know if the version of "Slaves and Bulldozers" featured on the original BMF bonus disc is the Paramount version? I'm guessing no since the Paramount disc is listed as entirely unreleased, so that version seems to be AWOL (was not included on Echo of Miles).

I am diggin' the BD surround mix on this release. Well done. The spinning blade on the cover is pretty friggin' cool too. I know the price on this is steep, but if you love this album as much as I do, it's worth every penny.

I bet it must sound amazing. I opt for the 2 CD set but maybe next year I can find this on a super-sale I'll upgrade. The re-mastering on the discs were well done.
