2016-2017 Schedule https://www.nhl.com/schedule/2016-10-12/ET(The new NHL site sucks and only lets you see the schedule per month) Penguins 2016-2017 Schedule http://penguins.nhl.com/club/app---- Use the old thread for the awards etc.

Two big contracts already........based on negotiating rights trades
Keith Yandle - 7 years, $44.5 mil - Panthers Alex Goligoski - 5 years, $23.75 mil - Coyotes
Ben Lovejoy is going to make some good money.

Yandle at just over $6M per makes Letang's $7.5M per look like a bargain.
Lovejoy is in much the same situation Rob Scuderi was in after the 2009 Cup - very solid performance in the playoffs with a couple memorable moments, just as he's hitting the free agent market. Some team will likely overpay for his services. And if he gets - and takes - that kind of offer, good for him. I'd love to see him back, but let's face it, if you can get the kind of payday that's going to leave you set for the rest of your life, you'd be nuts to pass on it. If Engelland got $2.9M per, Lovejoy stands to get around $4M because there's someone who'll be stupid enough to offer it.

I've read that signing him could put the Lightning in Cap hell with a lot of other free agents coming up shortly like Kucherov and Hedman..and the thought process might be "we were 1 win away from the Cup finals without him, so we have a great team and it might be better to lock up 3-4 others instead of giving him a huge contract."
Supposedly the Red Wings want Stamkos if they can get a cap floor team to take Datsuk's contract.

Lots of talk around P.K. Subban. Bergevin says he's not shopping Subban, just taking calls, but the one thing he's not saying is Subban is out of play.

When the Penguins won the Stanley Cup, Sidney Crosby passed it to injured defenseman Trevor Daley first. It was later reported that Daley's mother had fallen seriously ill, and one of her wishes was to see him win the Cup, so Crosby told him he would be first during the post-game celebration. It's now being reported that Mrs. Daley has died. RIP.

It's official............... Penguins ditch the Vegas gold uniforms. The older jersey is official again...including bringing back the white one for the road jersey. http://penguins.nhl.com/club/news.htm?i ... L|PIT|home

The jersey switch was not official, but they did everything but announce it. When you put all the merch w/the old color scheme on sale and specify that it's only that color scheme - and it includes all jerseys - pretty much everyone knew what was up.

Here's round 1 of the draft http://www.tsn.ca/2016-nhl-draft-tracker-1.506582There were some fairly significant trades last night............ Blues trade Brian Elliott to Flames for 2016 2nd and 2018 conditional 3rd ..............guess that takes care of the goalie market for now. Rutherford said the Pens could start next year with Murray and Fleury........doubt the latter wants that. Red Wings trade Pavel Datsyuk, 2016 1st to Coyotes for the 2016 1st , 2016 2nd, and Joe Vitale ..............Datsuk for Vitale....why didn't Shero think of this a few years ago? Seriously though RickA should be concerned about where this might lead to. Canadians trade Lars Eller to Capitals for the 2017 2nd, and 2018 2nd Then get Andrew Shaw from the Blackhawks for 2 2016 2nds. Great of Calgary, Montreal, New Jersey (Shero), Carolina (Francis), and Florida for congratulating the Penguins last night before their picks. ------------------- Radko Gudas - 4 yrs $13.4 mil - Flyers He's a typical Flyer, so guess it works.

Beau Bennett traded to the Devils for a 3rd round pick.
Now I can go to Newark to see him not play.

Favorite comment of the day - and I'm paraphrasing - was about the Pens picking a goalie with their first pick in the second round. A commenter said, "They need forwards and more defensemen. How can they justify this pick?"
Because, you know, the long history of guys being drafted at #55 and stepping right into the NHL.

Favorite comment on the Bennett trade: Seth Rorabaugh tweeted that Shero said Bennett was lucky he texted him (Shero) after he got fired.

Rutherford says the Pens are going with Murray/Fleury next year to start the season. I hope it works......playoff run is one thing, but regular season could be an ugly Luongo/Schneider. They're also risking that either Fleury or Murray will be the Las Vegas starting goalie in 2017-18
--------------------
Filip Forsberg - 6 yrs, $36m - Predators
Tim Erixon - 1 year, $575,000 - Penguins I guess he has a real shot of making the team next year with Lovejoy and Schultz probably leaving.

Matt Cullen wants to play another season. Pens will take a run at him. Reportedly, Justin Schultz wants to sign w/the Pens, but they'll probably need to make some cap space for that.
And I'm with Charles - the Lindros thing kind of surprises me. TSN had been running a Twitter campaign advocating for his selection. That really kind of rubbed me the wrong way.
And passing over Recchi and Andreychuk?

Quiet day in the NHL off season....................
Canadiens trade PK Subban to the Predators for Shea Weber
Steven Stamkos - 8 years, $68 mil - Lightning.......congrats Rick A. They still have free agent issues coming up, but this is a discount.
Oilers trade Taylor Hall to the Devils for Adam Larsson
Seth Jones - 6 years, $32,4m - Blue Jackets
Tomas Hertl - 2 years, $6 mil - Sharks

Or as Josh Yohe put it on Twitter: "Just put my phone down for 20 minutes to get the kids at daycare. What the hell is going on?"
