I used to go to his club in Toronto quite often. Jeff would sit in with a different guest and the hose band every Thursday, and play jazz trumpet on Sundays (he loved The Dorsey Brothers and collected old 78 records). He was a really nice guy, incredibly talented, and beloved by local musicians. I never felt that his albums did him justice, but I guess that is the way it is sometimes. Live At Grossman's probably came the closest http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004VDSWVQ/?tag=imwan-20 . I'll definately check out this new one.

I only got to see him live once, on the tour for the first album, and he was an awesome player. I'm definitely in for this on.
Touching on BG's story, I knew he was a big jazz fan and had a huge collection. I read somewhere that he could identify his records by feeling the grooves.

Check this video out, shot from his club. On Jeff's right is Pat Rush (Edgar Winter Band). The guy singing and playing harmonica is Jerome Godboo and he's amazing. And, of course, Jeff's solos are incredible. Godboo wrote the song. This is basically the line-up of the house band for a while. Good times.
