She's one of my favorites. She did several DVD and blu-ray commenataries very late in life, very recently. So I feel like I know her from those long talks while watching the same movie.
I considered the last of the breed, of the classic stars I love. She was the one that highest for me on the sliding scale of "favorite" and "still alive."
I'd say Olivia de Havilland and Kirk Douglas are our strongest links with the past now -- no one else that I can think of that's a bigger star from further back.

In 1963, my mom took my siblings and me to see McLintock! . I don't remember much about the movie except for the fight scene and Ms. O'Hara's flaming hair.
Rest In Peace.

I have the blu-ray, and Maureen did a commentary track for it recently -- her mind was super sharp and it made the film more enjoyable hearing all the behind the scenes stuff.
That film is one of the most personal to John Wayne -- his character shares all sorts of conservative philosophies about family, money, etc. that seem to emanate from the Duke.
