New Performance Series Release: Neil Young Bluenote Café + "Crime In The City" (Official Audio)

October 9th, 2015 - (Burbank, CA.) - Neil Young has announced that the latest Performance Series release from the Neil Young Archives is Bluenote Café - which will be released on November 13th via Reprise Records. The album collects various performances captured during Neil's 1988 tour.

This superb live 2-CD, 4-vinyl LP set documents one of Young's most funky and heartfelt periods and features seven unreleased songs: "Soul of a Woman," "Bad News Comes to Town," Ain't it the Truth," "I'm Goin'," "Crime of the Heart," "Doghouse," "Fool for Your Love," and a searing 19+ minute version of the immortal "Tonight's the Night" from The Pier in New York City. The album is available for pre-order as of today at NeilYoung.com and here.

Those who pre-order will receive and instant download of "Crime in the City". Other instant downloads will become available at regular intervals leading up to street date and will also be available through PonoMusic.com, iTunes and all participating digital retailers.

The three tours sampled here (11/87 West Coast small venues, 4/88 East Coast/Mid-West medium venues, 8/88 EC/MW bigger venues) have been extensively distributed in bootleg/trading circles. A few of the shows are widely available in perfect sound quality (Jones Beach is the "5/8/77" of the bunch).
GREAT shows with Neil burning it up on Old Blackie and the horns pounding the riffs! Not sure if Cromwell & Rosas replaced Talbot & Molina in 4/88 or 8/88 (don't have any good sound quality April shows) but they really bring new energy to the performances.
This should be an awesome listen! Really looking forward to this after several years of cooling off on Neil releases. Saw the 8/88 tour in Saratoga Springs, NY. Ordinary People, Crime In The City, This Note's For You, and Tonight's The Night were the peaks of the show, but it was great from start to finish. MTV had stopped showing the This Note's video by that time and Neil added several reprises of the "Turn off that MTV" chorus to the song. Very funny! The drawn out bluesy start to Tonight's The Night built mucho tension before the band and horns exploded into a superloud charging version of the song.
This set has me really excited! Thanks for posting about it here as I no longer track the Neil webpages.

Me, too. It was a great tour! Glad Neil's resuming the performance series.

I've been in the process of going from a casual Neil Young fan to a super Neil Young fan all summer. This release looks like it will jump me leaps and bounds as I'm familiar with very few tracks on here. Can't wait!
