'Captain America: Civil War' Will Tease 'Thor: Ragnarok,' Says Marvel Star

If Chris Hemsworth's absence on the cast list for next year's Captain America: Civil War made you think the movie would be missing all things Asgardian, think again. None other than Sif herself is teasing a Thor: Ragnarok tie-in for the next Marvel Studios production.

Talking to the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog, Jaimie Alexander said that eagle-eyed fans can find clues about the third Thor movie all through the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "There's a lot of great stuff they've peppered in through Agents of SHIELD, [Avengers: Age of Ultron], Captain [America: Civil War] will have some stuff. There's just all kind of Easter eggs and hunts, if you're really paying attention. They're so good at interweaving everything throughout those films."

That doesn't mean that Alexander, who'll be appearing in NBC's Blindspot this fall, knows the plot of Ragnarok. "Marvel, I think on purpose, they don't tell me certain things," she said, "because they know I'll be like, 'So here's what's gonna happen.' But I do know I will be in Thor 3 and that Sif will have a very pivotal part in that movie. I just can't tell you what because I'll get shot."

Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled for a July 2017 release.

Tom Hiddleston on playing Loki in next 'Thor' film: 'I never know if people want to see him again'

Tom Hiddleston has suggested that his future playing Thor's archenemy Loki may be uncertain.

Though the actor is expected to return for Thor: Ragnarok, which shoots next year for a November 2017 release, he gave a wavering answer when asked about possible Loki overkill in a new interview.

"I never quite know whether people want to see him again or whether people want to move on," Hiddleston told MTV News. "I can't really take the temperature on it. It's so difficult because it feels like if it ever happened again, I would try not to repeat myself, I would try something new."

"I never want to feel like I'm retracing the same steps," the actor continued. "I guess it's like any actor who plays a character over and over again. I wonder what it's like for the guys who play The Avengers. They feel the same thing - each time they want to take it on, take it in a new direction."

'Thor 3' Finds Its Director

Taiki Waititi, who co-wrote and co-directed the vampire spoof What We Do In the Shadows, is in negotiations to direct the third installment of Marvel’s Thor movies, titled Thor: Ragnarok.

Chris Hemsworth is reprising his role of the Norse god of thunder.

Waititi’s emergence as the choice caps off a round of intense meetings that took place over the last month. Ruben Fleischer, Rob Letterman and Rawson Marshall Thurber were the other directors that were finalists for the gig.

Waititi is the latest head-scratcher from Marvel for their pick to direct a big-budget extravaganza, especially one steeped in the Norse mythology and an Apocalypse myth.

Waititi is best known for his comedic work — co-starring with Jemaine Clement in What We Do In the Shadows, the well-regarded vampire parody that debuted at Sundance.

He wrote and directed episodes of Flight of the Conchords and is a writer on Disney’s upcoming animated feature Moana, which will star Dwayne Johnson.

(Fun fact: he appeared with Ryan Reynolds in Green Lantern, the 2011 adventure movie from Marvel’s superhero movie rival, Warner Bros.)

While Waititi may not be the obvious choice for a movie such as a Thor installment, the kind of outside-of-the-box thinking behind hires like Waititi's has served Marvel well. The studio tapped comedy directors Joe and Anthony Russo for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, a move that turned out so well that the brothers not only directed the third Captain America movie, they are now working on the new Avengers outings.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is another example of someone from the fringes that Marvel brought into the majors.

Mark Ruffalo's Hulk to Appear in 'Thor: Ragnarok'

Mark Ruffalo is in negotiations to play his Bruce Banner/Hulk character in Thor 3: Ragnarok.

The movie just recently found its director in Taika Waititi and is moving quickly in pre-production.

The move, first reported by JoBlo.com, firms up the Jade Giant’s next appearance after his inconclusive ending in this summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Ruffalo and his take on Hulk was one of the standouts in the first Avengers movie and fans have been clamoring for a Hulk solo movie. The Hulk rights may be a bit twisty — Universal has the distribution rights even as Marvel has the character back in its fold, according to source — so fans will have to make do with this.

Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki, and Jamie Alexander, who plays Lady Sif, are also returning to the franchise. The movie is set for a Nov. 3, 2017 release.

Lets hope he has a big part and not a cameo like Capt America?

'Thor 3': Mark Ruffalo Teases Banner/Hulk Meeting

Even though Thor: Ragnarok will feature the Asgardian Thunder God teaming up with his Avengers co-star Hulk, that might not be the most surprising team-up in the 2017 movie. Talking during a recent interview, Mark Ruffalo suggested that the Hulk might get a chance to meet ... Bruce Banner.

"I am excited to keep coming back to this role," the actor told the Huffington Post. "I see a lot of space for it to grow. I feel like there’s a lot of cool stuff to explore still, especially the relationship between Banner and Hulk. Hopefully, we’ll see the two of them in a scene together. That would be cool!"

While the logistics of that meeting might sound complicated to some, considering that Banner and the Hulk share a body, it's nothing new for comic book fans. Indeed, there have been numerous meetings between the two through a variety of machinations in the decades since the characters' debut in 1963. Traditionally, the two have interacted inside Banner's mind, but there have been occasions where Banner and Hulk have been physically separated, allowing for the two to literally confront each other face to face.

Whether or not Ruffalo's comments are wishful thinking or a hint that the events of Ragnarok could cause such a schism remains unclear, although if those responsible for the movie want to make fans very happy, it might be time to start considering the idea no matter what.

Thor: Ragnarok will be released Nov. 3, 2017, with shooting to begin in Queensland, Australia, next summer.

Hulk works best as a guest star, imo. Even in his own book, he was best when joined by guest stars either with or against him.

Cate Blanchett Joining 'Thor 3'

Cate Blanchett, coming off her best actress nomination for the 1950s-set drama Carol, is in final negotiations to join Thor: Ragnarok, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The move comes a little more than a week after the Marvel Studios project hired Stephany Folsom to work on the script.

It is unclear what character Blanchett would play, but several sources say that Marvel has been on the hunt for a “bad-ass female.”

Marvel has always tried to go outside the box when it comes to casting its features (and went even further with the actors hired for Doctor Strange), but the Thor movies have consistently attracted top global talent, ranging from Anthony Hopkins to Idris Elba.

Blanchett, who won an Oscar last year for Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine, is riding high this awards season with acclaim and nominations for her performance in Carol, Todd Haynes’ lesbian-romance drama.

Tom Hiddleston Says ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Will Be His ‘Last Time’

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has been one of the most endearing and exciting characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite the fact that he’s the villain of not one, but three Marvel movies, fans love Loki and can’t seem to get enough of him. But, if Tom Hiddleston is to be believed, you should enjoy Thor: Ragnarok because that will be the last you see of him.

Hiddleston spoke to The Daily Beast as he was out promoting his Hank Williams biopic I Saw the Light and when asked the perfectly normal and expected question, he had a very unexpected response.

‘Thor 3′ will be cool because I’ve not done it for four years. I love working with Chris [Hemsworth]. This will be my last time out of the gate.

Say WHAAAAA?

Which is almost exactly the response the reporter had and, perhaps realizing his mistake, Hiddleston immediately began to backtrack. “I don’t know! Honestly, I don’t know! They make it up as they go along.” Which is not necessarily true considering Marvel has been building to Avengers: Infinity War for quite some time now and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely were hired in May of last year to write the script.

Really there’s only one movie after Thor: Ragnarok that Loki would be involved in and that would be either installment of the two-part Avengers: Infinity War movie. Some have speculated that Loki could play the role in the movie that Mephisto played in the comics; a second-in-command who is subtlety manipulating Thanos for his own nefarious reasons before ultimately turning on him. With no Mephisto in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Loki was a perfect fit for that role, assuming that role even exists. How closely Infinity War will hue to the “Infinity Gauntlet” storyline remains to be seen.

Whatever the case, it would be a bummer if Thor: Ragnarok were really the last we see of Loki, but with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we know that eventually contracts will run out and all our heroes too will see their last time out of the gate sooner rather than later.
