Description
All roads have led to this. Forty-one years in the making, the R40 Live tour took a very real journey back through time. Beginning with the grand design: a state-of-the-art stage set that pivots, rolls and dives, and brings Clockwork Angels in to bombastic, colorful life before marching stridently back in time (through theatre stages, a panoply of band and fan shots, the accrued memories of a life spent playing live) to a mocked-up school gym and the band playing there; a solitary bass amp set on the chair behind Geddy Lee, a mirror ball spiraling crazily above, casting thin rods of light like a light rain across the crowd, 'Working Man' coming to a shuddering halt as the band's beginning becomes their end.

Rush recorded and filmed R40 Live over two sold-out shows in the band's hometown of Toronto at the Air Canada Centre on June 17 & 19, 2015 in the middle of their R40 Live 35-date North American tour.

R40 Live had the trio of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart, performing a career-spanning live retrospective, celebrating their 40+ years together.

Rush to Film New Concert DVD

Rush will film both of their Toronto performances this month, returning for a hometown concert recording for the first time since their Test for Echo dates nearly two decades ago.

Rush play Toronto’s Air Canada Centre on June 17 and 19, as part of their ongoing R40 Live Tour. These shows are part of what looks to be Rush’s last large-scale tour, though guitarist Alex Lifeson says the group will remain active, just on a smaller scale.

“I could still see us going out and doing a special run – a couple of weeks here and there, those sort of things,” Lifeson told Guitar Center (via Classic Rock). “We haven’t discussed that, but I could see that happening. And possibly making another album or two. We love playing together and we really enjoy that aspect of our relationship.”

Rush kicked off their R40 Live tour on May 8 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla., with a career-spanning set of favorites and choice deep cuts. Their 40th anniversary tour continues though Aug. 1 at Los Angeles.

The band has admitted that crisscrossing the globe has been made more difficult both by age (Lifeson’s arthritis is a major concern) and with an increasing focus on home life. “After 40 years of being away from family and friends and that life, it’s time to review that and see where our priorities lie,” Lifeson added.

Rush’s 1997 concert recording was held at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre. Prior to that, the band filmed a concert video from the Grace Under Pressure tour at the Maple Leaf Gardens in 1984. They taped Exit … Stage Left at the Montreal Forum in 1980.

This is going to be it for them.

Been seeing the set lists for this tour. They've been starting with the most recent discs and going back in chronological order. Here was their set when they played in Minnesota last month;

Video footage of SCTV's Rockin' Mel Slirrup (Eugene Levy) introducing Rush before the encore on the R40 tour.

Had the feeling I was the only one in MSG last night who recognized this entertainment icon.

I'm sure Gene told Geddy back then that for Rush to succeed they needed to add some flash or at least a horn section.

btw.....once of the amusing things for me (and probably missed by most) was the roadies constantly changing things around behind the band as they played totally not paying attention.

At one point they built a wall of Marshall amps like any Rock God would have on stage but by the time of the encore (where Rush was "original Rush", they had put a small Marshall amp on a chair behind Alex just like a very new band might have!!! :)

There's videos from one (or both) Toronto shows where Rush play Losing It for the first time ever. They brought Ben Mink, who played on the studio song) on to do the violin.

Rush will release a live DVD shot during their “final tour” in November, it's been revealed.

It was filmed over two shows in Toronto in June, after the trio had announced a North American road trip that they expected to be the last of its kind.

The three-hour package includes a number of tracks that have never been played live before, or never previously filmed. A single of Roll The Bones will be released on September 25.

Fan site RushIsABand.com reports: “Unlike other concert DVDs where the look is the same throughout, this show has an extensive setup that changes multiple times. As the set list moves back in time, the stage setup reflects the band's stage setup from that period in their career.”

R40 Live is to be launched on November 20 via Zoe, Rounder Records and Concord Music. No further details have yet been revealed.

Guitarist Alex Lifeson admitted last month that he believed the R40 tour was their last – but added: “We want to get through this and see where we’re at. We want to discuss whether we’re going to make another record. A lot of things. Whatever this tour is, it’s not the end of the band.”

In.

And I expect (hope for?) more live shows, but not extensive tours. They skipped some towns on this tour that have been huge for them, so I won't be surprised if there are some shorter, limited mini-tour type things.

I bought several Rush live DVDs and none of them have sounded good.
Maybe this will be a change. They need to get someone who knows how to mix concerts.

And now the official trailer. Looks like Ben Mink (originally mentioned above by Mark) makes the cut.
