the third disc is a little rough, i love his early stuff, but his later career is really hard to listen to, some bad bad songs for sure.

vannelli had quite run from 1974 (powerful people) to 1987 (big dreamers never sleep - a very good album BTW). his fall started with 1990's 'inconsolable man' and went steadily downhill after that, basically reaching his nadir with the just horrible "canto (what on earth was he thinking?) 2009's 'a good thing' was a small comback, but by that time most fans had given up and very few ended even hearing it.

i saw him on the 'gist of the gemini' tour, and i gotta tell you that it was fantastic. it was gino vannelli and a drummer, a percussionist, and 5, count em, 5 keyboard players (no guitars. the sound was remarkable.

if you have never experienced vannelli i strongly suggest getting 'powerful people' - storm at sunup' - gist of the gemini' a really fabulous 3 album run.

i can't be positive on this, but if i'm not mistaken his slide started when he quit playing with his brother ross.
