Tough call between North By Northwest and Charade. I'll give the edge to Charade because Audrey Hepburns in it.

Plus it was the first movie, I remember seeing Grant in, as wel.

Just caught My Favorite Wife on TNT the other day (on DVR, but watched it today).

Not good. :ohno:

Though I have to wonder what those Olympic type gymnastic iron rings were attached to above the swimming pool where Randolph Scott was diving. Nothing up there but sky, as far as I could make out - though I'm sure some crane did the job for the movie, to see iron rings above an outdoor pool like that is a bit of a mystery. Nobody would put rings there like that for anybody.

You'd do it for Randolph Scott.

Randolph Scott

And so is North By Northwest.

Did you just called North By Northwest "pretty good?"

:ohno:

The thing that's so amazing about North by Northwest is that comes across as a very well-done satire of a James Bond movie, before James Bond movies existed.

Some critics have called it "the first James Bond" movie because it essentially set the template for those films. Hitchcock was a fan of the novels and at one time even considered directing a Bond picture. Thanks to his work in NxNW, Cary Grant was almost cast in Dr. No. Ian Fleming wanted Hitchcock to direct the first Bond flick. And oddly, after Fleming influenced Hitchcock, Hitchcock ended up influencing Fleming.

Neat stuff.

Overlooked Cary Grant flick worth watching, if you like those standard WWII flicks: Destination Tokyo. It's a submarine movie.

Submarines are cool.

I voted NXNW, because that's my favorite Hitchcock movie, too, but I will always have a soft spot for Bringing Up Baby. Katharine Hepburn was really at her most captivating in that one.

I cheated because The Philadelphia Story is a movie with Grant in it but it's not really a Cary Grant movie. But it's a superb movie and he is in it so...
