I discovered this yesterday & was raving about it. I still am, but as an fyi, it's a drastically expanded (38 songs vs 19 songs) edition of 1993's Cities of the heart on CMP.

I still love it, & am thrilled with the additional 19 songs.

There is also a dvd with lossy audio.

It is! Be careful when ordering; most versions are 2 dvd & 1 cd. I'd suggest emailing the Amazon seller of your choice before purchase if you want the 3 cd version..

This is a 2DVD/1CD set. There's no such thing as a 3CD edition.

Here -- from the left, a 3DVD/1CD edition, the 2DVD/1CD edition you posted, and the plain 1DVD edition:

To make a 3CD edition, you'd have to get the original 2CD set, then also one of the above new editions with the new bonus CD, which has contents not on the original 2CD release. Did you find this digitally, Geff?

I'll refrain from comment until I have a chance to do more research. You are right, at minimum I posted the wrong link. The math is a bit confusing. The 1993 had 19 songs; the new one has 38. The Amazon discs on the link I wrongly posted spread the 19 new songs out on all 3 discs, which if they aren't all cd's or all dvd's makes no sense to me.

Well, let's put this on the Video board (since the CD is the bonus, not the other way around) and I've removed "3CD" from the thread's title.

A little research; Amazon.UK is selling "The Lost Disc" as an mp3. It has 13 songs. Unless the dvd's & cd's are repeating songs between them, the math still doesn't add up.

This article does seem to validate Linda's opinion:

One last comment: Between this (whatever it is), the Prince 2013 Volume 3 Montreux release (released this year), the 2 new Ani Difranco official boots & the 3 slightly older Wishbone Ash official boots i discovered this week, I am in musical heaven! Can't remember the last time I found so much awesome new music to hear in such a short period of time!

Closer inspection of the photo for the 3rd item from the left shows that it is a 2DVD edition, not 1DVD.

I already have the version below (2005 Weiner World 2 DVD Edition), so I wasn't going to spring for the new dvd. I just discovered they are quite different; there are numerous tracks only on 1 or the other (too many to count, there isn't all that much duplication). The sound is also much better on the new edition. So I bought the new 3 disc version on Ebay sealed for $13.

Now the question is when will I have time to watch them? I've had the 2 disc below for years & today is the first time I've watched any of it & that was just a quicky to check the quality (good picture, ratty sound)

Quick fyi: My initial post is wrong. While 5.1 fans will be disappointed, & of course I would have preferred hi-res; the dvd's in the 3 disc edition have 1 audio option: CD Quality 48/16 LPCM. I.e. they sound much better than lossy Dolby or lossy regular DTS.

I got my 3 disc set (2 very long dvd's, & 1 cd with everything that wasn't on the Deserted Cities cd mini box) for $13 + s/h; I am very pleased. Video quality is quite high bit rate for dvd (seems to average about 8mbs), but the lighting is awfully blue.

The above comments refer to the 3 disc set in this thread, NOT the dvd I posted about immediately above on Wiener World.

Dear God this is an amazing release. For whatever the reason, the sound on the dvd is better then the cd's.

And I already knew the music is to die for. Most people think of Bruce as simply part of Cream, but post-Cream with a few exceptions (BBM, West Bruce & Lang), Bruce was mostly an Avante Garde or prog player. He was in Kip Hanrahan's stable, which is just about as odd as classic rock gets.

The man deserves to be in the hall of fame as a solo artist.

I previously ranked this my #2 release of 2014, based only on the cd & having heard the older cd's. It's been moved for me to the #1 release of 2014.

So, which link, Geff? I want it.

Cities of the Heart is the live CD of the DVD show?

Cities has 2/3 of the show on cd. To get the 3rd cd, you have to order the new 2 dvd, 1 cd set.

There's a remaster of a 2 cd set here:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GXQEL46/?tag=imwan-20

Please note the link for the remaster does not include a track listing. The original is on CMP, has 19 songs, starts with "Can You Follow", & ends with `Sunshine Of Your Love.

Amazon actually shows the original (UPC 044351100422) with the wrong cover, wrong record company & 1 cd instead of 2. That UPC does not come up on Amazon.UK at all.

If you want to make 100% certain you get the one I have, here are 2 ebay links:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cities-of-the-H ... 5418d3e168

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cities-of-the-H ... 2a4c86fb85

To get the 3rd cd, you have to order the new 2 dvd, 1 cd set:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OYTCWMC/?tag=imwan-20

Here's the original CMP pressing, two CDs, at Amazon UK:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000008NZN/?tag=imwan-21

It's cheaper at Amazon USA -- this listing also shows it as two CDs:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000008NZN/?tag=imwan-20

Every pressing, every version of this album, all of them show the same cover art as the current edition -- but that's incorrect as Geff pointed out.

Mine has a different cover (& comes with an outer box), but they're likely the same.

I really like the sound on the dvd's. Hoffman, Gray, Wilson, etc would not be at all embarrassed by this audio mastering. I can play it REALLY LOUD & hear all the detail with NO screechyness. Someone put some real effort into this new edition. The only super important players he worked with that are missing for a total career retrospective are John Mayall, Peter Green, Robin Trower, Leslie West & Eric Clapton (there is some CMP material that's been released with Bruce & Clapton playing together. If I remember right, Baker was not involved in that; though he plays quite a bit on this set).

One other thing with the 3 disc 2 dvd edition: I BELIEVE it's the only place to get the original sequencing.

Thanks for the relevant links. I enjoyed the hell out of the 2005 Cream Blu Ray, so I'll spring for these.

Cool, I suspect you'll enjoy. I had hoped to make it through the entire 4 hours + last night in one sitting, but the phone rang at 10.

That said, it's only weakness (which will not be as apparent on the cd's due to the sequencing) is too much from the hard rock big band. But I'm about to get to the BBM section that takes up the last 45 minutes. I can't wait! 00's Cream with Gary Moore replacing Clapton. YES!

Last comment (I promise!). The on stage chemistry between Bruce & Moore is amazing. I've heard live shows before, but never seen one. I'm really surprised they only did 1 album.

The only reason i can think of is live I've never heard any show where they did ANY of Moore's classics. It's always Cream & the one BBM album. Maybe that pissed Moore off?

It's a shame, because in 1993 when this was recorded, Moore was playing circles around Clapton's contemporary work, & was really as good at this point as Clapton was in 1970.
