The reissue was supposed to come out in mid-March, but it appears it will be delayed a month. Hopefully there will be no further delays. Tony Visconti finished remastering this project more than a year ago....it has been nothing but record company hassles ever since. Heck, we've already passed the 30th anniversary of "Station to Station"...now it's the 30th anniversary of "Low" and "Heroes."

Updated dman's thread title with the new release date ~ L.

My hope is that Station comes out with the King Biscuit show with Stacy Hayden on guitar attatched as the 2nd disc. Ryko used 3 tracks from that show as their bonus for STS. I have the entire show recorded off fm when I was a teenager, but not in cd quality.
If anyone wants to hear the show, part of it (51 minutes) is on Wolfgang's vault, although in really mediocre sound quality (low bit rate):

This situation reminds me of how there were supposed to be DVD-As of Stage and David Live, and those came out in Europe but were delayed for the US for months and months ...I don't know that they ever released them (if they did, by the time they did, I was no longer interested).

Bowie's catalog is treated very badly here in the US. In the UK, the 2-disc imports of Earthling, Hours, and Outside were fantastic (I imported the, or rather, got them from CDUniverse).

davidbowie.com says:

..."The two upcoming EMI CD & DVD releases of the Young Americans Special Edition and The Best Of David Bowie 1980/1987 have been put back in North America from March 19th to May 8th. The release date remains March 19th elsewhere..."

For the record that is May 8, 2007. Let's see if they get it out before 2008.

I would really like to find out the story one day about why it has taken the record label so long to put this out (assuming it comes out in May). Too bad ICE isn't around anymore to do an investigation........

Another question....why wasn't the YA outtake "After Today" put on this 2007 reissue? It was included on the Sound and Vision compilation. Also, what about the original version of "It's Gonna Be Me" without the strings?

Regarding the delay in the release of the YA re-issue:-

I'm assuming this was an April Fool's Day joke but I'm not too sure...

This is ridiculous...

4.01.2007 NEWS: USA CHAINS REQUEST CHANGES TO DELAYED YA SLEEVE

Time takes a cigarette...

The reason for the delayed release in North America of the Young Americans Special Edition CD & DVD has become clear as consumers have been given the choice between the two versions above in the larger supermarket chains.

As previously reported the album has been delayed until May 8th in North America. (02.23.2007 NEWS: BEST OF 1980/1987 AND YA DELAYED IN NORTH AMERICA)

Apparently pressure was applied by these larger chains to remove the cigarette from the original Young Americans sleeve before they would stock it. A compromise was reached in that both versions will be stocked, but only the non-smoking sleeve will be on display.

This cover change is apparently the reason behind the album's delay in the USA, as the new version had to be proofed and accepted before it could even go to print.

I guess the censorship makes sense, but surely only a fool would continue to smoke simply because somebody else is doing it on an album sleeve?

That's crazy if it's not a April 1st joke.

That's a really crazy issue of censorship.

I can think of a handful of albums that have smoking on the covers. Makes me wonder if this is going to be done on other releases or if songs will have to be changed.

What will happen to "Smoking in the Boys Room"?

I am over 50 years old and have never smoked cigarettes, if I was David Bowie I wouldn't bow to that bull. Remember when album covers, like the music was an art? I mean come on, censoring a cigarette, who do they think they are kidding? Go to any grocery store and you see a huge display of cigarettes, does it make anyone want to smoke? I have always been attracted to girls who smoke, I married one who does not. If they win this one whats next? How about removing the urine from the monolith on Who's Next? I am going to start smoking tomorrow as a rebellion to this bull..............

As an avowed socialist I can tell you this gives us a bad name. And by the way, we don't believe that grocery stores can make better informed decisions than you. Now, the government, they know what's best. :?

In Wayne's original post, I think the correct terminology would have been Facism, NOT Socialism.

If I remember correctly this is not the first time a ciggerette was airbrushed out of a photo for an album cover. It was done on a photo for the cover of the box set "Old Friends" by Simon and Garfunkel. It seems that Paul Simon had the offending cig in his hand.

Also Bruce Springsteen's "Tracks" box set where they airbrushed the pack of cigarettes from the nightstand and The Beatles' "Real Love" CD single where Paul was holding one as well. I feel like I am being treated like a child just because someone is offended by smokes and I am a life long non-smoker.

Why do people insist on trying to change the past?? Personally I think the wisps if cigarette smoke really added to the YA cover.

It will be interesting to see what "they" do with the Abbey Road cover if and when that CD finally gets an upgrade. I will be SERIOUSLY miffed if that cover is mutilated in the name of political correctness.

For a breath of fresh air during these PC times (pun intended), one should check out the new Bee Gees box set of their first three records...is there a picture where they don't have a cigarette in their hands?!?!?

I'm going to draw cigarettes into the hands of people on every album I own.

I had a friend that convinced me that there was a big spliff airbrushed out of the cover of Bob Marley's Legend.
Although I figured out he was pulling my leg, it does look like his fingers were holding one (they must be frozen in that position)
