Nothing to do with the album, but here's a funny PSA that Lulu recently did for Scottish Power's "Stand Up To Cancer" campaign:

I worked at a 1300 MegaWatt power plant back in the day. Lulu's got a whole lot of pedaling to do to replace a power plant, we're talking thousands of years worth, ha...

I saw a video the other day of her lip synching the version of Man Who Sold The World that Bowie/Ronson produced for her. Very cool.

Bump: We have an image in the first post now, but I'm not convinced that this will be the final version of the cover.

Lulu has become obsessed with hats lately. Every photo of her from the past couple of months, she has a hat pulled down to her eyebrows like that. I think someWAN got a bad haircut.

I think she looks damn good for 66, and she sings as well as she ever has.
I'm glad she's growing old because she otherwise would be dead.

Press release:

Quote:
Lulu goes back to Decca 50 years on

LULU has signed a new deal with Decca Records, the company to which she first signed at the tender age of 15.

The forthcoming album 'Making Life Rhyme' is Lulu's first ever complete collection of self penned songs and marks a departure for the legendary singer/songwriter, capturing the artist during a period of huge change.

The album was recorded in London and features lyrics which are at once highly confessional, questioning and ultimately redemptive, written by an artist who recognizes that, 'I need a little peace but I never seem to find the space / having trouble getting to sleep cos the party is always at my place'.

The legendary singer, who has worked with artists as disparate as David Bowie, The Beach Boys, Bobby Womack, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Take That, Jools Holland, Arif Mardin, Jerry Wexler, Tom Dowd and Barry Gibb will tour the UK this year. The tour opens on May 10 and includes a major London date at London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane on May 17.

Lulu said today: 'I'm really proud of this record. I've made a lot of records over the years but this one comes at a time in my life when I'm re evaluating everything. Life changes, people change, and this album sums up what I see as my place in the world at this time. For that reason it's especially gratifying to me that the album will appear on Decca, my first ever label'.

President of Decca Records Group, Dickon Stainer, comments: 'We are delighted to welcome such an iconic singer back to Decca, where she started her career'.

TOUR DATES AS FOLLOWS:

Sun 10 May 15 Salford Lowry
Mon 11 May 15 Liverpool Philharmonic Hall
Tue 12 May 15 Glasgow Clyde Auditorium
Thu 14 May 15 York Barbican
Fri 15 May 15 Gateshead Sage
Sun 17 May 15 London Theatre Royal Drury Lane
Mon 18 May 15 Cardiff St Davis Hall
Tue 19 May 15 Birmingham Symphony Hall
Thu 21 May 15 Southend Cliffs Pavilion
Fri 22 May 15 Nottingham Royal Concert Hall
Sat 23 May 15 Sheffield City Hall
Mon 25 May 15 Ipswich Regent
Tue 26 May 15 Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre

And yes, that looks like yet another possible cover image being used as the still in the video. :)

I likey.

Seems like the chorus background vocal lassies are a tad too loud relative to Lulu, and I wish the whole thing sounded a wee bit "warmer"...

And I like this new possible cover image better than the first one...

Trivia, FWIW: Lulu is 5 months younger than Stevie Nicks...

IMO Stevie was great until she blew out her voice screaming the awesome live version of Rhiannon every night while tanked on too much Cocaine.

Lu is really stretching out the promo process here. Now there's a longer teaser for "Faith In You" which still isn't the final video proper. But if she posts them, we'll post them. :)

Presenting at last, the final, finished, complete, done, official "Faith In You" promo video:

However, all these promos have tired Lulu out, so the album has been pushed back to April 13th.

That's a nice little piece. I wouldn't call it a "miracle", but her recording a new album is certainly an unexpected pleasure.
I hope she maintains this energy level and keeps that blues cover record in mind for down the road.

OK-this is a very good album, everything I could have hoped for.
She sounds wonderful. There's a rougher edge to her voice, and she uses it well. Some of these tracks really rock.
Really well done, and a pleasure to listen to.

Just played the 30 sec clips at Amazon mp3, they bee very good, varying in style and tempo. I wish there were 2 more songs to get the time up to 45 minutes. Maybe some bonus cuts will show up somewhere...

On several songs it sounds as though Lulu is channeling Tina Turner from 1984, well, they do have some history together...
