I have borrowed a friends savage dragon trades.

I am up to issue 16.

It is better than I expected.

Art is crisp and clean. The characters feel like real people. The stories are engaging.

Not the best book I have read, but entertaining so far

It looks like I'm going to have to wait until July, 2015 for the Savage Dragon Ultimate Collection. :(

That thing has been postponed over and over again. I'll believe it's coming out when I actually see it.

I am up to issue 72.

Much better book than I had expected. Finding myself enjoying it a lot.

Dialogue can be a little clunky. But the art is decent. The characters are entertaining. And feel like real people in the main. The art while not originally attractive to me is growing on me a lot.

The stories move at a great pace and the letter volume are fun

One would think that Larsen would use a little more leverage at Image in getting this thing out already.

That was my attitude regarding Multiversity.

It's not a leverage thing. The original digital color files from the earlier issues can't be found. So Larsen would have to try to scan the original artwork back in and then pay someone to re-color them and sales from other Dragon collections don't indicate it would be worth that kind of investment. (I think that's what's going on, my memory could be shaky.)

I myself have read the first 100 issues, and have to say that I enjoyed them. He's still not my favourite artist of all time, but it's well written and he's a good visual storyteller.

That's too bad. Maybe he should have considered an "unwrapped" like the ones that DC have been putting out. That would be cool.

I have long wanted to read Dragon, but wasn't sure when a good jumping on point would be. That's why I've been waiting for this particular collection. I also prefer the hardcovers.

I might just go ahead and get the 1st paperback archive. I will get twice as many issues anyway.

IMO, Larsen's art doesn't translate as well to black and white as guys like Kirby, Ditko, etc. -- it's just a little too rough, IMO. I think color is worth it.

Also, Jay -- when you get the floppies, be sure to read the letters' columns in the first 50 issues, more or less. They were pretty good, and there was a long, pissy debate via letter between Larsen and PAD in those issues.

I am up to 85.
Still fun. But I do miss some of the supporting characters.

A lot of the readership reacted poorly to Larsen's "blow it all up" approach to "This Savage World". I think he might have lost a big chunk of the readership with that move.

The savage world stuff is not as good as the preceding 75 issues. But it is still entertaining.

I am up to issue 93 now and keen to see where he takes it

Yeah, he got serious Kamandi / Bronze Age nostalgia and couldn't help himself.

That was the stuff that completely hooked me into buying the book. I'd been a casual reader up to that point.
