I'm putting together a list of reissue ideas for titles falling under the UMG umbrella, which would include labels like A&M, Polygram, Mercury and a host of others. I'm focusing mostly on things that have never made CD or at least never in a fashion that was readily available to most of us. (Like very rare short-release titles in Japan.) I'm trying to make a case for reissues that have been overlooked that may have some sales potential. Personally, I start with some titles like:

Still unreleased Head East titles
Middle period Southside Johnny titles
The Waitresses (Where is that set from them?)

Anyone else? Discuss!

Walter,

Now that you mention The Waitresses: I never heard their music, but the album title "Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful?" is just totally original, the sort of title that makes me curious about their music.

To those who didn't get into the albums when they were released, there are 3 tracks that you're most likely to know about the Waitresses.

"I Know What Boys Like" - Their "big" hit single.
"Square Pegs" - The theme to the show that lasted one season and deserves a DVD release.
"Christmas Wrapping" - This one is still everywhere around the holidays...the song about the woman deciding to ditch holiday festivities for the year, only to run into someone she's been too busy to connect with when she goes out to pick up cranberry sauce on Christmas Eve to go along with her "world's smallest turkey".

As I recall, they had two studio albums, a live King Biscuit album and an EP, not to mention a couple of hits compilations. I'd love to see a package with both studio albums with the EP added in.

P.S. Lead singer Patty Donahue died way too young at 40 of Lung Cancer.

I was lucky enough to see Patty and The Waitresses live at Camoflauge in Bayside Queens during that New Wave Explosion that happened in the early 80's.

At least their hit "Christmas Wrappinng" will keep them in the public's eye forever.

Gary Wright recorded an entire album for A&M under the group name Wonderwheel, but only a single was ever released. I'd love to see the whole album finally come out.

I hope that some of the big-name titles that didn't make it will have a shot to come out. Townshend has said that there was supposed to have been a 5.1 Quadrophenia eventually released. I'd like to see one for Who By Numbers and Who Are You as well.
I am now currently under the impression that any major Hendrix releases (which are not Dagger label releases) are being held up because of the changes in the music industry as well.
Jimbo, I sure agree with you on the Nils Lofgren titles.

Trocadero Bleu Citron

Oh this is the time for my annual obsession The Shirts' second album Streetlight Shine needs to come out. It had a great single - Love is a Fiction. Just 'cause only six of us would buy it is no reason to keep this gem hidden.

I know it's been issued before, but good luck finding a copy. The last one on eBay went for $117.50!

I have an import CD that has selected tracks from both of these albums along with newly recorded material.
