Spin CD has just posted listings for several versions of the Rolling Stones 1981 Hampton Coliseum show. The various packages include 2 CD sets, a DVD ad a Blu-Ray. This show is one of ones that the Rolling Stones had previously made available as a download. The video footage is coming from an HBO concert broadcast they made of the show (not Hal Ashby's Let's Spend The Night Together footage by the way; totally different show) which they have digitally remastered for best possible quality.

Personally I'm very excited about this. I bought the download (good show), but always prefer some sort of physical product when available. More importantly, the Spin CD write-up indicates that this is the first in a series of releases. Hopefully they'll go back and reissue the '75 LA Forum show in this fashion, since the complete concert was filmed (as noted in the Some Girls Live In Texas Blu-Ray liner notes) and exists in pieces on You Tube right now. And just maybe this will encourage certain other artists who are sitting on large archives of concert recordings and film footage and have recently dabbled in downloading concerts themselves (cough BRUCE cough) to go back and release similar packages...say from oh 1978 just to pick a year out at random.

If they ever do hi res editions of the 70's DL's on BR, I might bite. Other than that, I've got 44/16 flac's of the entire series & as I'm not a big Stones fan post mid-70's, I'm good.

If they go the physical product route on these shows, there had better be a Brussels Affair '73 package or else they're going to have a riot on their hands. I'll be on the front line.

Although I have this DVD from trading circles years ago I will buy an official release and get the CD for sure.

I've bought the downloads, initially having friends in the UK send me the FLACs, then just settling for the MP3s. I'll buy the physical versions because that''s part of my obsession. :-)

I do hope they mix in some totally unreleased shows in the initial output of this possible series.

I had a link a couple of days ago that I lost, to a UK site which was taking orders for a Blu-Ray version of this show and (again, I wish I could find the link) a release date of something like this past May. I meant to paste it here but I've been busy.

Bump: The domestic release date has been scheduled for November. Pre-order listings are not yet up at Amazon USA, but they should be soon.

Well, we've yet to see what Eagle will be releasing in America. There will at least be a version with 2 CDs and a DVD.

This info is from Rick, who had originally posted it as a separate thread -- apparently From The Vault will be an ongoing live Stones series. After the Hampton Coliseum show, this will be coming:

“From The Vault” is a new series of live concerts from The Rolling Stones archive which are getting their first official release. “L.A. Forum – Live In 1975” is the second title in this series. The Rolling Stones’ “Tour Of The Americas ‘75” was the band’s first tour with new guitarist Ronnie Wood. Even before the dates started there were dramatic scenes in New York City at the official tour announcement when the band unexpectedly turned up on a flatbed truck to play “Brown Sugar”. After a couple of low key warm-up shows in Louisiana the tour took in 44 dates between the 3rd June and the 8th August 1975. They settled into the L.A. Forum for a five night stint from July 9th to 13th and this concert film features the show from July 12th. The footage has now been carefully restored and the sound has been newly mixed by Bob Clearmountain for this first official release of the show.

These threads are merged now, we'll just keep the whole series together. The releases are on Eagle so there'll definitely be domestic pressings. Don't jump at the UK ones (unless you're in the UK of course

).

I wish Eagle was getting less of the quality vault stuff. Eagle has never met a compressor they didn't love.
