Ian Hunter is about to release a 2010 live cd. "Anyone who pre-orders the CD will receive an immediate hi-res download of the complete album"
I wrote asking what exactly the hi-res bit/sampling rate was. Sad answer: 320k mp3.............
If they'd have gone 96/24 or better I would have bought it on the spot.

It's NOT free. It's $25.00. I'll likely buy the cd for $12 on Amazon when it's released.

"Hi-Res" may become the new "previously unreleased".
Or perhaps the new "iconic"?

Orwell is shuddering....................
I know from having corresponded with him that Ian Hunter is a good human being, as was his emplyee who wrote me. This may be a GROSS case of misunderstanding about the meaning of the term "hi-res" by IH's team. But if I had ordered without asking first, furious would have been way too moderate a word for how I would have felt.
C'mon guys, this is common sense. MP3 is a lossy format, no matter what the bit rate is. And the term hi-res has come to mean at MINIMUM a 24 bit rate.
And yes, 320 MP3 probably sounds fine in most cars. A car is not a hi-res listening environment.
