I have a fondness for these and would have been all over this when i was younger.

This one is particularly well made as it uses existing footage, not horribly miscast actor buddies like many. others.

Best Fan films I've seen are the Star Trek Continues series.
Not sure they qualify as "fan made" as they are pretty professional, but I was blown away by the attention to technical detail and quality of stories:

Here's the first episode

That looks really good, need to check it out further. How is it financed?

Not sure - I sure I've read somewhere it's a pretty low budget per episode - something like $30k. There's some cool guest stars too - look out for Sci-Fi faces from the 70's and 80's, and yep, that's the original Apollo from the Star Trek TOS episode "Who Mourns for Adonis". I just thought they'd done a great job of really capturing the feel of the classic series, right down to lighting and camera angles. The first episode is a little long in my view, the second is better paced, and a certain LARGE guest star in green body paint made me smile when I saw him:

How do they afford this? Do they have the blessing of the Roddenberry estate?

Interesting, but boring as hell.

It was all over the place but nice effect work. And the girl playing WW was easy on the eyes.
