Thanks to Glenn S for this week's song.
According to Wikipedia, which is the authority on everything, the first recording of this was by Gwen "Rockin' Chair" McCrae. Her original version sounds nothing like "Rockin' Chair"....thank God...but this didn't start out as a country song either.
Again according to Wikipedia, which is the authority on everything, there's over 300 recorded versions of this song. Let me know which ones I missed......even though I got the big ones.
I saw one of the acts on this list play it live last night.

I wasn't really sure which version I was going to vote for when I suggested this one to Charles. I like Willie Nelson's easygoing delivery and I admire the sheer bravado of the Pet Shop Boys' version. Ultimately, I had to vote for Elvis. Of all his many post-breakup ballads, this always seemed one of the most heartfelt to my ears. He owned this one.
