I think we need a thread for this.

The show's version of Mason Verger drinks martinis with kids' tears in them. That's just so over the top and cartoonish that it finally inspired me to create this thread.

I half watch this show. My wife loves it.

Jack Crawford asking for a to-go plate at Lecter's dinner party was the high point of the series.

This is one of my all-time favourite TV shows. I have the first season and have watched it several times over. I'll be 'trade waiting' for the second season I think, since it wasn't a big ratings hit here in Australia.

The tone of it, and the performances, make the completely insane moments work in some bizarre way - it's really one of the most intensely involving things I've ever seen on television.

Bumping because I love this show....I have no idea of the context of this second-season image, but it's clearly a continuation of Will's 'Forest Man' hallucination thing. It's also just a bizarre and startling image, something this show is great at providing.

Its well shot well and has top notch acting..........but man is it bleak :) I'm such a wuss.
I almost went to see Michael Kohlhaas today, starring the guy that plays Hannibal.I looked it up on wikipedia and the story is too depressing for my tastes.:) Great actor though.

Somebody should put him in a Marvel movie....actually since his brother played the main villain in this season's Sherlock....somebody should put both brothers in a marvel movie.

One of the better shows amid the week's offerings, IMO. :ohyes:

It's really good. It's about this psychiatrist who is really, really good at his job, but he's persecuted by his morally corrupt co-workers. :ohno:

You'd like it - a bunch of teens hang out at a diner, and one of them has a dark secret. Hilarity and hi-jinks ensue.

It moves at a glacial pace, which sometimes is as hard to take as the gore. Last night's ep is a prime example. The interview room dialogue between Will and Hannibal's old shrink....my god, they each were talking......so......slowly.....delivering.....each....and....every....word......

And then the scene with Virger feeding the dogs.........

I'm glad next week is the season finale. I'm about at the end of my rope on two levels here.....

I've just seen the first two episodes of Season 2 - brilliant stuff. I'll be watching the rest over the next few days. My wife and I are both completely hooked on this show. It's so heavily stylized, but really draws you into this dark web of weird entanglements. It's totally unlike any TV show I've ever seen before.

It's worth it just for the hallucinations Will sees - it's so eerie and otherworldly and unique.

I think I'm going to like this show a lot more when I eventually sit down and watch the box sets ... kind of marathon viewing style. The story is so painfully slow, that I'm just finding it hard to follow on a weekly basis.

Having said that, there's a couple of things that I really like about the show ...

- All the acting is top notch, but the dude playing Hannibal is just sublime. A great decision to NOT just find a younger Anthony Hopkins.
- It is absolutely BEAUTIFULLY shot. The photographic QA is really something to see here, even though the subject matter of many of the most memorable shots will not be for everyone.
- And lastly, the decision to use the Red Dragon as a 'basis' for the series, without really following the chronology. There's no way readers of the books can know what's going to happen since they've already changed so many things (that I won't bother to list here). I know the "respect for the source material" crowd probably hates it, but I'm enjoying NOT knowing what's going to happen (for the most part).

I haven't heard anything about it being picked up for a third season. Anyone hear anything?

-LP

Hell, this is such a great show - I've got three more episodes of the second season to go, and I'm just blown away. It seems to get better with every episode, and the stuff with the 'cave bear' guy is just phenomenal. Best thing I've seen on TV in years.

I've now seen all of the second season - it's amazing. The guy with the animal suit was an amazing idea, and the way Will & Jack are playing Hannibal (and they know he's watching for it), is incredibly suspenseful. Gillian Anderson is amazing in her role (small though it is) and the constant allusions/references to classical music, art and literature are so pretentious, but work so magnificently, that the whole show just seems to transcend every single TV trope imaginable. The actors know how over the top the scripts are, but deliver their lines with such smoldering conviction that you can't help but love it.

About to watch the last episode of season two....we already know Jack and Hannibal are going to fight it out, so Hannibal's criminality is clearly (finally) going to be brought into the open (since we know Jack Crawford has to survive), but this show is still bound to have some things in store that will surprise me. It always has something going on that, even if you suspected it might happen, happens in a way that you never could have anticipated.

I'll spoilerize this, even though I think Simon and I are the only ones watching ...

Spoiler: show
Well, Jack doesn't really HAVE to survive. Almost nobody does, except the title character. They've already killed someone (I think) that has major appearances in the books. Chilton is still dead, right? I mean, he was shot in the friggen head!

I can see Jack not surviving his wound and his last action being to call his wife. Why not? That seems like a fitting end for him. Since they can't really do 'Silence' the way the books went (not now), they can just replace Jack with the 'sex in the city' broad. She will blame herself for letting Jack get away with as much as he did and commit herself to catching Hannibal. Just what I think they might do.

Once again, I have to admit, I just don't remember why we all assumed Abigail was dead. Wasn't it supposed to be her ear that Hannibal forced down Will's throat to make it look like he ate her (can't believe I just typed that)? Or was that someone else? Anyway, it was a pretty good reveal, since we already knew that she reminded Hannibal of Micsha ... but then, that doesn't save her either. And the airplane scene was very cool. Really have no idea what they can do for a 3rd season. If they want to do their own version of 'Silence', then obviously someone is gonna have to catch him first, introduce a Clarese-like character (or the actual Clarese) and so on.

Actually, now that I think about it, a Clarese-like character would suffice in replacing Will as the lead character, with Will having just a few cameo appearances to try and set her on her path. Freddie Lantz could snap that famous picture of him and his colostomy bag for the Tattler, just for fun.

Like I said before, I'll enjoy this series more when I sit down to a marathon viewing, but I'll really have to get myself in the mood first. Also, I think I have given them their rough outline for season 3 ... I hope they know where to send the check.
