Tori Amos announces new album and UK tour dates for 2014

Tori Amos is set to release her new album, 'Unrepentant Geraldines', in the spring of next year.

Her 14th album, following 2012's 'Gold Dust', will be supported by a world tour, which kicks off with a run of UK and Ireland dates. Amos will open up the tour at Dublin Olympia on May 7 2014, following it with shows in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and Nottingham, finishing the UK leg at London's Royal Albert Hall on May 15.

After her more classically themed projects, 'Unrepentant Geraldines' will apparently see the singer songwriter returning to a more contemporary style. Amos' musical, The Light Princess, opened last month at London's National Theatre. A collaboration with writer Samuel Adamson, the initial run of the musical is slated until February 2014. It was nominated for Best Musical at the Evening Standard Drama Awards, with the lead Rosalie Craig winning for Best Musical Performance.

Tori Amos plays:

Dublin Olympia (May 7, 2014)
Glasgow O2 Academy (10)
Manchester Apollo (11)
Birmingham Symphony Hall (12)
Nottingham Royal Concert Hall (14)
London Royal Albert Hall (15)

Like Ms Etheridge, I used to love Tori. While I own her entire catalog, & she's never done a bad album, it's been well over a decade since she did a great album. Do I buy this.................?

Tori Amos to Get 'Unrepentant' on New Album

Image

Fourteen albums in, Tori Amos is still finding inspiration wherever she looks.

The prolific singer-songwriter is set to release her next studio album, Unrepentant Geraldines, on May 13th on Mercury Classics as well as support the record with a lengthy international tour. The album is an appreciative portrayal of the singer's experiences with visual art, Amos tells Rolling Stone – and, fittingly, she unveils its vibrant new cover art exclusively here.

"I've always been inspired by visual artists of all mediums because, as with music, art is not a job you can go to and leave from, but it is something that defines who and what you are," Amos tells Rolling Stone. "Visual artists shake up our brains and force us to look at everything, from objects we don't normally think twice about to people we might not have cared about. In one image, they can remind us of nature's power to enchant, as well as humankind's fruitless attempt to overpower her or simply second-guess her. Through the visual artist's application of tone, shape, pattern and pigment, I not only begin to see, but I can honestly say I begin to hear."

Amos' adulation of visual art shouldn't come as a surprise to diligent fans who have followed her piecemeal teasing of the album cover on her Tumblr over the past week, or who recall the singer discussing seeing her songs "three-dimensionally" with Rolling Stone two years ago. Unrepentant Geraldines marks the piano maven's return to her premier instrument and also to thoughtful contemporary pop; its fine art emphasis also nods to the highbrow proclivities of her last album, Gold Dust, on which she reworked past songs with classical orchestration courtesy of the Netherlands' Metropole Orchestra.

Today, Amos also unveiled the North American leg of her Unrepentant Geraldines tour, which launches July 16th at the Orpheum in Vancouver, Canada and crosses the United States before wrapping on August 24th at Fillmore at the Jackie Gleason Theatre in Miami, Florida. (See full dates below.) It follows her previously announced, far-flung international dates, which kick off May 5th in Cork Ireland and include stops in France, Belgium, Italy and Russia before culminating in Bucharest, Romania on June 19th.

Amos' album and tour announcements come amid new acclaim for her musical The Light Princess, a fanciful production currently running in South London. Cowritten with Australian playwright Samuel Adamson, the fable about a lovestruck prince and princess recently earned six prestigious WhatsOnStage nominations, an especially triumphant outcome considering the production languished in indefinite postponement in 2011 before being revived.

She lost me a long time ago. I doubt this will change my mind, but I'll wait to see what people say.

Still on the fence on this one, hoping for more reviews (Thanks, Geff). Anybody else heard this?

I heard snatches of this on NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday, where she was interviewed about the new album. (I didn't realize that she's 52!) I have never listened to much of her music, but what they played sounded pretty good. I didn't know what to make of her English accent inflection, though, in the songs; is that how she's always sung?

Renny points out a DE in Sunday Fliers. Anyone have a clue what is "DE" about it?

Yeah, but Geff. It maybe only two video's but it's Tori. She's look 'in so good.

It's John, Smiff and Dr. Chris fault who did this to me when they re-posted the redhead waitress from last year's "Jimbo's Lunch".

My copy arrived from Amazon yesterday. I agree, it's her best since Scarlet's Walk. Might be her best yet. Early contender for album of the year, if it keeps sounding this good. Recommended.

I need to play it more.

While I really do like it, I was just playing a fair use copy I burned for my crappy car changer.

As there was extra room at the end, I put 4 Under The Pink Demos on the end.

It may be because I'm so familiar with Pink, but on first complete listen, the 4 demos slaughtered the rest of the cd.

I do agree it's her best in years & a return to her old sound; but so far it isn't hitting me quite as strong as the first few. i will play it several more times before forming a strong opinion.

Just in case anyone here likes the hi-res downloads like I do, this is a bit interesting: All the 3 "majors" have this; but HDTracks & Studiomasters only have it in 44/24. Acoustic Sounds has it in 96/24. I am not good enough at waveforms to state whether it's upsampled, or a truly higher res edition.

What I can tell you; i emailed A.S. last week. The swear there's is really 96/24. While I can't afford it, I just bought it & it sounds really good.

Sorry for the late notice, but it's on sale for $15.28 for 2 more hours (there WILL be more sales, have no fear!).
