For me the most consistently rewarding album from this list is "Darkness..." so that got my vote, although nearly any of these could have gotten my vote except for "Born In The USA." Good songs but the production has always bothered me.

I'd say it's almost a tie between Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. & The Wild, The Innocent & the E Street Shuffle.

"The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle" for me...probably followed by "Born To Run", "Darkness" and "Greetings".

I still don't get the backlash against Born in the USA. Every song is great, as were all those non-LP b-sides. Bruce was at the top of his song-writing game, and the band was a well-oiled machine.

The very first time I hard "Dancing In The Dark," I thought what the f**k?.Then I heard the rest of the album and wasn't crazy about it. There was a certain magic/it factor with Asbury Park/E-Street/Born To Run/Darkness/The River.......that was the end of it.

Born To Run is still the boss, the pinnacle of his career. So good it could be a Broadway show. Never tire of any of those songs.

The only song from those sessions I cared for was the Born in the USA b-side "Shut Out the Lights".

I voted for BitUSA. It was my intro to Springsteen and I find I can get into every song, which hasn't been the case with other albums. My favorite Bruce song is "Badlands", though, with "Tunnel of Love" a close second.

I'm going to say "Nebraska"--an album that amazed me at a young age as one of the first times I'd ever heard every musical aspect--music, lyrics, performance, production--all merge into a single artistic vision by a single artist.
So many other chapters in Springsteen's career have seemed calculated to either please personal management and/or record label marketing people, or to appease the resentment of angry Springsteen fanatics concerning some aspect of his prior artistic evolution. "Nebraska", on the other hand, sort of stands by itself--I played it constantly when I was a teenager, fascinated.
It also strikes me that in 2014, the tracks comprising "Nebraska" would probably be released as throwaway downloads, or as a "Born In The U.S.A." bonus disc, rather than an album unto itself.

I haven't listened to much prior to Born In The USA (just the singles, mostly) but I have most of the albums since then. My favorite is probably Magic.

They had a unique sound and feel that was lost after "The River" and never fully regained in my eyes. Even though "The River" was a little bloated to me, it still contained the same kind of material as the other 4. I just never got into "Nebraska" and when everyone was jumping on the BITUSA bandwagon, I was jumping off. About all I can listen to from BITUSA is "Downbound Train". Over the years, there have been some "wow" tracks outside of those early albums, like "Roulette", "Murder Incorporated" and such, but why do you think that everyone goes nuts at his concerts when he pulls out tracks from those first 5 albums? It's because they are magic. I don't begrudge Bruce changing over the years and following his muse, but that doesn't mean that I have to love everything that he does. "Queen of the Supermarket"? Ugh! These days, while I still go to the Bruce concerts when I can, I see more Southside Johnny shows. Southside is still incredible and I can see him in much smaller halls.

I agree also - by that time I had seen Bruce 4 times in concert..starting at very small clubs up to McDonaugh Arena (sp?) at Georgetown the week he hit both covers of Time/Newsweek.....just incredible live performer...showed he remembered the OLD rock and roll shows at the Paramount in NYC where each act had to prove themselves with just a few songs and get off.....he was a master of the game then. I vote The River since it's sort of the culmination of all that....but E Street with Rosalita is right up there... Too bad Bruce can't seem to get that back again... I really don't even care about seeing him any more. Never thought I would see the day...

Wild is probably my favorite as an album, as it displays a wonderful looseness and jazziness (a good bit of which I infer was attributable to David Sancious) plus a real sense of time and place. What I miss more than anything now is the airiness and space in the music.
