Have you ever read the premise of an intriguing Kindle book, passed on it, and then later wondered where that book was but you couldn't remember the title? That happened with me with this book. I thought this might have been one of those cheap or free Kindle books I get all the time, but this time I didn't---but I remembered the premise of the book. By then it was too late since I had forgotten the title---until I saw the paper book staring at me when I was browsing in a Barnes and Noble. I waited until I got home, and that book wasn't free but it was cheap so I bought it.
So what's the book about? Clay Jenson arrives home from school to find a box addressed to him. It has no return address on it, and when he opens it up he finds seven cassette tapes. After finding a tape player, he hears the voice of a girl, Hannah Baker, who committed suicide two weeks ago:
This book has been getting TREMENDOUS buzz, and I would not be surprised if the audiobook in particular is selling well. A lot of fans have made their own versions of Hannah's tapes which you can find on YouTube. I'll try to avoid them until I finish the book.
May seem obvious to us, but it's amazing how disobvious it continues to be for some folks.

It's amazing the kinds of attitudes you hear. One librarian I know has been asked why the library needs a book budget, since they already have thousands of books on the shelves. Another was asked why she didn't just lay off the whole staff and have the library run by volunteers who work for free instead. In each case the asker of the question was a member of the library's Board of Trustees.
