The two albums released by Smith ("Baby, It's You") on ABC Dunhill . A Group Called Smith has been long out of print, and Minus-Plus has never been on CD before. February 4 release date.

Product Description
Smith were discovered in an L.A. nightclub by none other than Del Shannon, who got them signed to ABC-Dunhill and arranged their smash hit cover of “Baby, It’s You.” They also boasted one of the best albeit largely unknown female singers of the ‘60s in the person of Gayle McCormick, who, with her blonde good looks and powerful, bluesy voice, seemed destined to lead Smith to big things (she did go on to record a series of solo albums for Dunhill). However, the band broke up after these two albums, and while the first album was reissued on a long out-of-print (and now very expensive) CD, the second album has never been reissued in any format until now. Remastered by Maria Triana at Battery Studios in NYC, with liner notes by Richie Unterberger and added photos. One of the missing links in the late-‘60s L.A. scene!

1. Let’s Get Together
2. I Don’t Believe
3. Tell Him No
4. Who Do You Love?
5. Baby It’s You
6. Last Time
7. I Just Wanna Make Love to You
8. Mojaleskey Ridge
9. Let’s Spend the Night Together
10. I’ll Hold Out My Hand
11. You Don’t Love Me (Yes I Know)
12. Born in Boston
13. Comin’ Back to Me
14. Feel the Magic
15. Jason
16. What Am I Gonna Do
17. Take a Look Around
18. Since You’ve Been Gone
19. Circle Man
20. Minus-Plus

I imagine Smiff would have to get A Group Called Smith...just because.

:paranoid:

Gotta give credit to the Real Gone label, they generally do a nice job. And at least somebody is still doing reissues.

Me too, but it's a pretty great single. I'm hoping to hear some samples before I take the plunge, but I'm definitely interested. Lead singer Gayle McCormack has a nice cult following.

Gayle's first album is fab beyond words, and it's available out there somewhere on a UK reissue CD...

Durn burn, Rev-ola / Cherry Red Records UK is reissuing it yet again next week, Jan 6 2014. Amazon UK claims it's even remastered this time!

CD Description:
As girl-about-LA and singer with the wonderful Smith, Gayle McCormick had it all. And here on her wonderful Lambert-Potter produced first album from 1971, you have it too! In the midst of producing The Four Tops, Evie Sands and Dusty Springfield, Lambert and Potter were on a roll, providing a glossy Hollywood take on Northern Soul which makes even the songs you might think are too well trodden absolutely vital! Possibly the best ever version of Superstar too and you know how good that means!

1. It's A Crying Shame
2. Superstar
3. C Est La Vie
4. A Natural Woman (You Make Me Feel Like)
5. You Really Got A Hold On Me
6. Rescue Me
7. If Only You Believe
8. Save Me
9. Everything Has Got To Be Free
10. Gonna Be Alright Now

Thank you, Sir Robin, I might need to check that one out.

In the meantime, I just listened to "Baby It's You" by Smith on YouTube to refresh my memory, and it is indeed one righteously rockin' tune, every bit as good as I remember.

Here's a great-sounding audio version:

pre-ordered, along with gene clark's "white light" CD and fireplace flame coloring pine cones. (60's acid metal) seriously though my wife likes them in the fireplace, makes the flames purple and blue and green....oh nevermind :)

I am in too! This is why I love this place - without ICE - this would have been under the radar for me.

I wish I knew what Universal was supplying Real Gone for Maria to 'remaster', especially given that Smith were signed to ABC/Dunhill. Real Gone have had some sonic misses for me. Oh, and I picked up the second album on CD a few months back.

The sound on this disc is pretty good, I think, although the production is dated. I'd never heard these albums before, just the single, but I'm finding them to be very enjoyable. Without Gayle McCormack's vocals, though, they're a pretty pedestrian early 70's rock band. But they try hard, and they do rock.

i wish they would have included "the weight" from the "easy rider" soundtrack, it is probably their only non-album cut.........iright?
