Arcade Fire at Work on New LP, Aiming for Late 2013
Drummer Jeremy Gara: "We're in the studio full-time doing what we do."
By Jenn Pelly on October 25, 2012

Today, Arcade Fire's drummer Jeremy Gara gave an interview to Ottawa radio station CKCU 93.1, where he was a DJ in the 1990s, as Arcade Fire Tube notes. Gara said Arcade Fire are currently in the studio working full-time on their follow-up to The Suburbs, which should be out by the end of next year.

The band had to leave their old studio, a church, because the roof collapsed, but they have a new space that's coming together as they work. Gara said Owen Pallett has already recorded there.

Gara described their current process:
Quote:
We are just working like we always have. We took a couple months off and we've been writing songs. Now we're in the studio pretty much full-time just doing what we do. And we kind of shut the door. We haven't really gone out and done anything in over a year now. We haven't done photos or interviews or anything. We're just working on music and growing beards and living at home a lot and going out to dinner together.

But he added that they're not working within a timeframe:
Quote:
We're not that far into a record, but we've been working for a few months now. We are under no pressure from record labels or management or whatever to do anything on any sort of schedule. We're just working. We have no deadlines. It's kind of coming along.

Gara also predicted that METZ will win the Polaris Prize next year.

He also noted that, for some members of the band, the idea of raising a family is becoming a priority. And he said the band has been brainstorming ways of making arena shows more interesting, drawing bits of inspiration from Coldplay and Springsteen. "We don't hand-off that work," he said. "We want to stay engaged."

Excellent news. They can take all the time they need. Their efforts are also worthy to say the least.

Thanks Calijawn for posting an update.

Arcade Fire Play Secret Show in Montreal Debuting Fast New Songs
December 3rd 2012

The Arcade Fire played a secret show in Montreal on Saturday night to debut new songs from their follow-up to The Suburbs, the band's Polaris, Grammy and Juno Awards-winning album.

The band played the show under the assumed identity "Les Identiks" at Montreal's Breakglass Studio, to an audience of close friends and Montreal music scene one-percenters. A local institution part-owned by The Besnard Lakes' Jace Lasek, Breakglass is also where fellow indie local indie stars like Patrick Watson, Wolf Parade and Stars have recorded in the past.

According to Arcade Fire Tube, the band's semi-official fan twitter account, there was a veil of secrecy surrounding the show. "No video, no photo and no phones policy at the secret gig last night," they tweeted.

James Murphy Opens Up About Working With Arcade Fire
'I think it's going to be a really great record,' producer says

By Erin Coulehan

James Murphy wasn't sure what to expect when the Arcade Fire arrived to record with him at DFA Records' New York studio in March. "There's a lot of them, and they're mostly self-produced – like, they don't need a producer in a certain way," Murphy tells Rolling Stone. "So I didn't know how it would go."

The Canadian rockers have released few details on the highly anticipated follow-up to their last LP, 2010's The Suburbs, but the LCD Soundsystem mastermind and DFA co-founder said the quality of the songs he worked on took any pressure off of him as a producer, and allowed him to suggest different approaches or ways of fine-tuning the material.

"It's always working," he said. "It's just that I might have a different way of approaching how to finish, or how to accomplish an end result that really works."

Arcade Fire have performed a handful of new songs, and hope to have the album ready for release by the end of the year. "I think it's going to be a really great record, actually," Murphy says. "I'm eager to see it come out."

September 2, 2013

Last week we learned that Arcade Fire were indeed behind the graffiti, videos, and Instagram account advertising Reflektor and the date September 9th at 9pm. While it remains to be seen whether Reflektor is the name of the band’s new album, single, or both, one thing is for sure: a new song will be premiered on the 9th. The news was confirmed over the weekend by Richard Kingsmill, the music director of Australian radio station triple j.

As 9 o'clock pm creeps around the globe on the 9th day of the 9th month, Reflektor, (the latest offering from Arcade Fire) becomes available from participating stores across the planet.

We can confirm that David Bowie has supplied a brief backing vocal on the James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) produced track (no saxophone though), which is being issued under the alias of The Reflektors in the reflekting sleeve pictured here.

The vinyl is a very limited 2-track 12" with an instrumental of the A-side on the reverse and will only be available in stores at 9:00pm at your nearest participating store.

The reverse of the sleeve is designed to look like it has an album tracklisting for the upcoming album due on October 29th, but it is in fact just snippets of lyrics from Reflektor.

There will also be an Anton Corbijn directed video of the song premiered this evening.

Keep an eye on http://reflektor.arcadefire.com/ and http://www.thereflektors.com/ for updates.

Arcade Fire's Win Butler gives first interview about new album 'Reflektor'
Singer also reveals that a handful of songs on the album pass the seven-minute mark

September 11, 2013
http://www.nme.com/news/arcade-fire/725 ... QfS9wfe.99

Arcade Fire's Win Butler says the band's new album Reflektor is "really going to surprise people".

Details of the Montreal group's fourth album and world tour were revealed on Monday night (September 9) in a series of posts on the band's website. The same night, the band launched their 'Reflektor' single with a surprise show in Montreal, playing the small Salsatheque venue under the alias The Reflektors.

Appearing briefly on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show last night, singer Win Butler told the presenter about the process of how the album became a double record.

Butler said: "I think in Connecticut we were playing maybe 50 or 60 songs, like we literally played 60 songs while we were there and then kind of slowly refined it. It's longer than [2010 album] The Suburbs – it's a double record – mostly down to the fact that the songs are a lot longer. I mean, 'Reflektor' is seven-and-a-half, there's another couple of seven-minute songs on the record and so it made more sense to stretch it out to two records with two distinct sides. It's more of a classic double LP vibe where you have to flip the side and it takes you to a different place."

Asked if it meant that the band had got to a place in their career where they were comfortable to do whatever they wanted to do, Butler said: "That's always been our goal. I never wanted to be in a band that couldn't play whatever music we wanted to and I think that every record has been a project itself and some of the stuff on this record is really going to surprise people – it's even more different than [the single] 'Reflektor', I would say."

Pre-orders for the Reflektor double album have opened up at Arcadefire.com, with the website stating that early orders will come with first access to ticket sales for special shows as well as the band's forthcoming world tour.

Looking forward to their new album and am enjoying the "Reflektor" track . Not sure if the album came top The Suburbs but here's hoping it's even close to that good.

"The Reflektors" kicked ass on Colbert the other night. "Normal Person" has a monster guitar riff. I'm really looking forward to this disc.

Then there's the album's hidden track, an untitled "reflektion" [sic] of the album's other songs...

I heard this track on the radio and had no clue what or who it was. It sounded very retro to me...kind of 1980's Talking Heads crossed with something. I just couldn't place it. Popped out my phone and Shazam...it was the title track. Cool song. I've never been an Arcade Fire fan, but I may have to give them another chance.

It got a big thumbs up from the NY Daily News music critic.

It's growing on me. Don't think its a masterpiece, but as an Arcade Fire fan, it'll do. :-)

Washington Post critic shat on it (but he comes across like a bit of a douche).

http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle ... story.html

First line: "Look, I’m sure they’re very nice people, but on their fourth album, “Reflektor,” Arcade Fire still sound like gigantic dorks with boring sex lives."

Been enjoying this album, it gets better with repeated plays. Still I prefer The Suburbs over Reflektor but it's still an excellent release.

I agree with a lot though not all of the Tiny Mix Tapes review. They like the album more than I do, or more than I do at this time:

http://www.tinymixtapes.com/music-revie ... -reflektor

Pretty Much Amazing had a review more to my view:
