Due November 23, 2013 from Shout! Factory: Set in the largest stadium ELP ever appeared in, Live in Montreal 1977 is dotted with a number of tracks from the then-new Works album — including the third movement from Keith Emerson’s “Piano Concerto No. 1,” Greg Lake’s “C’est la Vie” and Carl Palmer’s “The Enemy God Dances with the Black Spirits” — as well as key cuts from their career to that point. “Pictures at an Exhibition,” the title track from a 1971 ELP effort, is featured along with “Lucky Man” and “Tank” from the band’s eponymous 1970 debut, “Abaddon’s Bolero” from 1972′s Trilogy and “Karn Evil” from 1973′s Brain Salad Surgery, among others. Live in Montreal 1977 is being called the most complete look into this show to date. Also included on this special release are personal anecdotes from both Palmer and Emerson. This tour was previously the subject of 1979′s Emerson, Lake and Palmer in Concert, and then 1993′s Works Live — but both have become increasingly difficult to find. Added by Linda: CD 11. Abaddon’s Bolero 2. Karn Evil 9, 1st Impression Part 2 3. The Enemy God Dances With The Black Spirits 4. C’est La Vie 5. Lucky Man 6. Pictures At An Exhibition 7. Piano Concerto No. 1, 3rd Movement 8. Closer To Believing CD 29. Knife Edge 10. Tank 11. Nutrocker 12. Pirates 13. Fanfare For The Common Man http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FCAJZQ8/?tag=imwan-20

Yeah-played theaters as Emerson. Lake & Palmer In Concert in 1979. I have a copy from Laserdisc, and it's on DVD I believe. Sound quality was far from the best and same with the picture. Can't imagine 5.1 would make a difference.

I remember reading an article that stated about 1/2 of the mics for the orchestra were not functioning which most likely is the reason that the sound was underwhelming to say the least.

Bump: This has been brought forward to the odd release date of October 11th, which is the Friday before Columbus Day.

I'm beginning to have second thoughts about this one. I have been buying all of these new live ELP shows on Shout! Factory, so that they are encouraged to keep putting them out, but I bought this on the original LP in 1979 and later on CD as "Works Live".
Besides, what's new here that hasn't been on other releases?

Besides, what's new here that hasn't been on other releases? This is just the whole show from Montreal where Emerson, Lake & Palmer In Concert and Works Live (just an expanded version of the 1979 album) were cobbled together from different cities including Wheeling, WV. This is the first time the Montreal show has been released in full. How it will sound I'm not sure as the Montreal show was only recorded 2-track from the board (supposedly the multitrack didn't operate right that night). So I will get this depending on sonic quality.

No problem DanO-I only recently found out what the original 1979 Emerson, Lake & Palmer In Concert album was made up of. Some of those songs are only the trio like "Peter Gunn" so it's absolutely not all from Montreal. This is the first release for that but how it will sound I am sketchy on.
