Which design do you like best? I'm partial to this one:

I like that one too, Linda. But I'm most partial to this one, probably because it's what they were using when I first discovered Marvel Comics circa 1977.

That's my favorite, too (Frank's). But I didn't know when the Silver Age ended.

Let me clarify. Say, your favourite Marvel trade dress where the cover price is 20ยข or more.

I was such a purist for my trade dress, I didn't like it if I got a hold of one with the direct sales "diamond" on it. I preferred the Curtis "CC" look.

25th Anniversary trade dress. Marvel "M", floating heads, UPC Spidey in black costume. Probably not a coincidence that this is when I started buying comics. And a specific favorite is the big head month with the Marvel characters border.

Kevin has referenced my second-favorite Marvel trade dress. I prefer it visually to the more cluttered earlier layout, since it allows more room for the art...but again, I think it's pure nostalgia that makes me look at the old "Marvel Comics Group" bar across the top of the cover and remember what it was like to be the target audience (back then, anyway) and be deliriously happy about it.

That "corner box and logo only" approach did allow for some kick-ass covers, to be sure.

Actually, I was just referencing that particular issue. As far as I know, it's the only Marvel cover with go-go checks. :yay:

Hey, that is kind of weird. Why is that checkered pattern at the top of that cover?

Same reason the head shots in the corner are backwards. It was "Assistant Editors' Month!"

The backwards heads make sense for "Assistant Editors' Month" (which I recently heard was a hoax -- anyone know more about that?). But a checkered pattern across the top of a cover? I don't see the connection.

They were aping the checkerboard pattern that DC briefly used in the 1960s. (Which is why I like it, because I'm a DC kid!)

Ah. Thanks, Kevin. I wasn't, um, alive then, which is probably why I missed that little nod.

I've never seen anyone say that, so I said it.

It describes the Hulkster pretty well right now.

This was the trade dress I grew up with...

But I'd say this is my favorite.

If I were publishing my own comics, I'd totally copy it like Larsen did at one point during his epic Savage Dragon run --
