Both considered groundbreaking in their day--which one sounds better today?

I think Quad holds up better these days (as seen by The Who's massive tour this past year).

So close, but I went with "Tommy" because I find I play it more often.

I love both immensely, but Quad is my all time favorite album. Perfect from start to finish. I don't listen to the 1996(?) remix. I stay with the original one.

The sound on Quad is better but I prefer the music on Tommy.

first 2 and last 3 songs on "quadrophenia" usually just put on side 4.
"tommy" has a little bit more.
"who's next" with "my wife" sequenced out, is the go to who for me.

I went with Quadrophenia but it was a hard choice. Both classics, and it's amazing how different they are even though they're separated by only 4 years and 1 studio album.

Keith Moon's drumming is amazing in Quadrophenia. On the strength of his performance alone, I would pick that one. Plus, Love reign on me is one of the great r&r songs period.

After seeing it performed on the most recent tour a couple times, I go with Quadrophenia. Dare I say it's more 'mature'? I love how Pete weaves various repeating themes into other songs. And then there's "Love, Reign O'er Me," which gives me goosebumps.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that the protagonist's name is Jimmy.

Anyone wanting to learn to play great air drums would do well to listen to this album at least a few hundred times. I did. Keith was never better and for me, this is the all time great drumming album.

Dr Jimmy and Mr Jim. When I'm pilled I don't notice him. He only comes out when I drink my gin.

Tommy; it just seems more epic to me, especially with the closing track "We're Not Gonna Take It". I'm surprised at the results; I'd have guessed Tommy to be in the lead. Failing that, I would have expected it to be closer.

I've said it on here many times but I dislike Tommy, and I find the narrative a total mess.
Quadrophenia makes more sense and musically, it blows Tommy away. Also, the production is night and day from 1969 to 1973, so that's another reason Quadrophenia appeals so much to me. The movie for Quadrophenia is so much better too.
Where's the Wire And Glass movie lol.

Picked Tommy from your two choices; but neither is in my top 3 Who albums:
1. Who's Next 2. Leeds 3. One of the 60's Best Of's

Quadrophenia by a mile. The Real Me, Sea & Sand, Drowned, 5:15, Love Reign O'er Me...its a better set of songs, a more coherent story, and as a teen, I liked the nude pics in the liner notes.

Tommy.....but I don't love either.
I only like (pre-Tommy) 60's Who. My Generation/Quick One/Sell Out and related singles. (Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy)
