140 gm vinyl remasters of Then Play On, Future Games, Kiln House, and Bare Trees, plus a 7" single of Oh Well. Beautiful box. The vinyl sounds really good, according to the general consensus of most. Remastered by Chris Bellman, who did the new Then Play On CD.

My copy should be here tomorrow. I'll submit a full report, in case anybody cares.

I am not that carried away with the sound on the new remaster of Then Play On CD, however it is an improvement on the Original CD version.

The original album was poorly recorded on what seems to be 4 track and also poorly mixed.

I agree, it seems like the album wasn't recorded or mixed very well. While the remastered CD isn't demo quality by any means, I think that's because of the source, and I do appreciate the improvement from the original CD, which I think is substantial.

I'm not expecting these LPs to blow me away sound-wise, but they should sound as good or better than original pressings, and from what I hear the box and sleeves are beautiful. Collector's stuff. I have a soft spot for this era , especially Then Play On and Future Games. And I'm on a major vinyl roll since I bought a new turntable a few months ago, so I decided I had to have this.

I got my copy last week and although I haven't listened yet, I did open it. The artwork is really nice, and the vinyl looks beautiful. They slid the 45 inside the pocket of "Then Play On", and it slid around, tore the inner paper sleeve at the center hole and it scuffed the vinyl. (yes, it did "all that") I'm sure, or at least hopeful that my VPI cleaner will take care of it.

Any chance the rest of these will be reissued on CD? Hopefully "Then Play On" will sell enough to justify it.

Mine arrived yesterday. The box and the sleeves are really beautiful. I just sampled a few tracks, but I thought it sounded really good -- good mastering, nice quiet pressing. Haven't checked the 45 yet.

I hope they release remastered CDs of this material, too. I'm in for Future Games, at least, as long as it's done as well as Then Play On. Then we need Penguin, Heroes Are Hard To Find, and especially Mystery To Me, probably my favorite pre-Buckingham Nicks Fleetwood Mac album.

Unfortunately it hasn't been determined if better tapes have been found for the other 4 albums in this box. They may very well be using the exact same source tapes that the original cds did, which were lp master tapes in the first place.
I would love upgraded cds of the other 4 albums, but only if they sound better than what's out there, and those aren't all that bad, imho.
